The new week in Destiny 2 started with the new update “Into the Light”. While many Guardians were excited about the new activity, there were, as usual, complications. Bungie had to put a stop to a bug by disabling a perk on your weapons.
What complications arose? Bungie released a short video before the update detailing upcoming changes in Destiny 2. A new class and exotic class items are set to be released with “The Final Shape”. Once the stream was over, fans were able to download the free update “Into the Light”.
However, just a few hours after the update was released, Guardians were greeted with a message from the architects, as they disabled a large portion of your weapons due to a bug making them too powerful (via bungie.help).
Infinitely increased rate of fire leaves enemies no chance
What was the bug? The bug revolved around the weapon perk “Cascade Point”, which can be found on many weapons. The perk causes final blows or sustained precision hits with another weapon to temporarily increase the rate of fire of the weapon that possesses this perk.
However, those who performed a small trick could extend the “short” duration to infinite, thus benefiting from a weapon that flooded your enemies with bullets. Cheese Forever, a well-known YouTuber who reveals many bugs and glitches, demonstrated this error in his video:
To execute this glitch, players needed to possess a weapon that had two perk points in the same row as “Cascade Point”. Then they achieved a kill with another weapon and went into the menu to swap the perk on the Cascade weapon on and off. After that, players could switch to the Cascade weapon and enjoy the perk indefinitely.
It was even possible to deactivate and reactivate the infinite effect if one wanted to save the effect for a later point in a fight. However, Bungie did not take long to disable all your weapons with double perk points that possess this perk.
How long will the weapons be disabled? That is still unknown. Destiny 2 runs on an outdated engine, and it can take a long time for developers to figure out what was broken in the system.
However, since this is a major bug affecting many weapons, we believe that Bungie will have the issue resolved by next week or the week after at the latest. Should the issue be more serious, a fix may not occur until the release of “The Final Shape”. We will keep you updated.
