The new DLC “Lightfall” has brought a lot of bugs to Destiny 2 that have not yet all been fixed. Today’s launch of the Worlds First for the raid “Root of Nightmares” made it necessary to deactivate 9 buggy weapons and items. MeinMMO tells you what exactly you have to forgo and why.
What has Bungie announced for the raid? Tonight at 6:00 PM, the new Lightfall raid “Root of Nightmares” in Destiny 2 will start with the big World First race. In the first 48 hours after the launch of the new raid, it will then be active in the so-called competition mode. Players from around the world will once again engage in an exciting race for a victory belt.
What is the competition mode?
The Contest Mode, or competition mode, is a mode that Bungie only activates at the start of each new raid. Players are massively scaled down from their light level, unfair and broken exotics are disabled, and enemies hit you with deadlier and much more accurate shots.
Bosses also become true sponge-like creatures that can endure massive damage. Essentially, it is a nightmarish version of the affected raid, in which guardians will grind their teeth for hours.
- The World First raid race starts today, March 10th at 6:00 PM, and the contest mode ends 48 hours later, on March 12th at 6:00 PM.
- Interested players must have a power level of 1,780 to be at the limit during all encounters in contest mode.
- To ensure it is not too easy, all participating players will also be automatically scaled to 20 power levels below every raid encounter for the full 48 hours.
- The first fireteam to complete the raid, loot the last chest, and return to orbit will be crowned the winner of the World First race, as soon as Bungie verifies the clear.
- Players who do not want to play but prefer to watch can secure Twitch drops in the form of emblems, as Bungie announced on their website.
In addition to the general information, Bungie has also announced a number of items that will be disabled in the first 48 hours after the release of the raid.
All locked weapons overview
Many teams plan their loadouts and ability builds for the raid very carefully. However, since Bungie has now disabled several items for the raid launch, you may have to rethink this selection now, as in addition to weapons, exotics, and armor mods, a strand fragment is also locked.
MeinMMO lists the affected items for you here and explains why you cannot use them during contest mode.
Great Overture – Exotic Machine Gun

Why the weapon was locked: The catalyst of the exotic machine gun “Great Overture” caused enemies to be permanently blinded.
Additionally, due to the bug, the blind effect was also transferred to other explosive weapons when switching the weapon (via CheeseForever – YouTube).
Lion’s Roar – Exotic Grenade Launcher

Why the weapon was locked: The small grenade launcher “Lion’s Roar” caused astronomical damage to enemies with red bars with its explosions. This would also jeopardize fairness and must stay in the vault.
Winterbite – Exotic Glaive in Heavy Slot

Why the weapon was locked: The first heavy glaive also dealt heavy damage. Hardly in the game, Bungie had to deactivate it again, as all bosses and enemies hit by it quickly met their end. It will get to know the raid later and remains disabled until further notice.
Jötunn – Exotic Fusion Rifle
Why the weapon was locked: Even with the noob weapon Jötunn, one could secure an unfair advantage in the World First race for the first raid clear of “Root of Nightmares”. Therefore, it also remains locked – now also during the Raid Contest in PvE.
The fault lies with the bug that generated more ammo than intended when using the weapon in combination with the “Solar Thief” mod.
- Normally, the “Solar Thief” mod grants 2x special ammo instead of 1x when picking up ammo used by the respective weapon.
- However, with the bug with Jötunn, it is said that 10x special ammo was generated each time and one could shoot infinitely – even in PvP.
The weapon’s projectiles have tracking and are deadly on a direct hit. An unsuspecting enemy can be eliminated in the Crucible with just one shot without needing to aim particularly accurately.
Hierarchy of Claims – Exotic Bow
Why the weapon was locked: The exotic bow with the guiding ring has a damage bug that has not yet been fixed. In normal PvE, it is not too bad, but its unwanted property would jeopardize the raid race.
- Shooting at targets at a certain distance through the guiding ring apparently dealt double damage.
These items are also disabled
In addition to the weapons, Bungie has also disabled some armors as well as mods and strand abilities.
- “Citans Bulwark” – Exotic Gauntlets for the Titan
- Through the exotic, players and their allies could shoot through the tower-high barricade. The exotic was recently nerfed in hotfix 6.3.0.5. Why it now had to be disabled for the World First run is unfortunately still unknown.
UPDATE:
- “Necrotic Grip” – Exotic Gauntlets for the Warlock
- Dealing damage to fighters poisons them, and this damage grows over time. If a poisoned fighter is defeated, the state spreads. Apparently, the spread with strand was too strong, which is why the exotic was pulled out of the race shortly before the raid started.
- Thread of Ascendancy” – Strand Fragment
- Normally, activating the grenade ability would reload equipped weapons and grant temporary bonus effectiveness in the air as well as handling. However, due to a bug, this fragment could also automatically reload weapons without delay.
- Bungie also announced that this option will be disabled throughout the entire game – not just in the raid competition mode.
- Empowered Finish – Armor Finisher Mod
- The mod grants players armor charge on finishers when they have none. However, it could also generate unlimited special ammo when players used it in a certain way.
When will the items be reactivated? So far, nothing is known about when Bungie plans to reactivate the items.
Typically, most should be available again after the 48 hours, when the competition modifier is removed from the raid. Guardians who wish to discover the new raid “Root of Nightmares” on the normal difficulty level after the contest will likely be able to use them again.
