The Destiny 2 community is in an uproar since they discovered on Steam that there is a new “Starter Pack” for the loot shooter for 15 €. It contains several exotic weapons, cosmetics, and materials. However, what sounds promising for new players is for long-time players “a pile of junk and the last thing the MMO needs right now.“
In the message, it says: “Hello everyone, yesterday we launched the Season of Wish and are closely following the discussions about what you liked and what you didn’t. We are starting with the Starter Pack, which unfortunately provides no joy. That is why we have removed it from the stores. We have heard your concerns and believe that there are other parts of Destiny 2 that new players should dive into first before chasing after these exotic weapons, cosmetics, and upgrade materials.“
What offer is it? The Starter Pack for Destiny 2 has now been discovered by players on offer on Steam. It is being offered there for 14.99 euros and contains a few exotic weapons, cosmetic items, and materials.
- The pack includes the exotic sidearm “Chosen of the Traveler”, the exotic pulse rifle “Fallen Image”, and the exotic linear fusion rifle “Sleeper Simulant”.
- In addition, there are cosmetic bonuses in the form of a Sparrow, a spaceship, and an exotic ghost shell.
- The set is rounded off by a material package consisting of 125,000 Glimmer, 1 Ascendant Shard, 50 upgrade cores, and 1 enhancement prism.
On the Destiny Reddit, the player adrineitor99 posted about the set and asked: “What the hell is this anyway?”, sparking a big discussion. Many believe it is justified.

That’s why players find the pack simply terrible: The community’s criticism focuses on the fact that all the exotics included in the Starter Pack can be easily unlocked in the game without major effort and none of them provides a significant advantage.
- The three exotic weapons included can be easily unlocked in the game at the “Monument to Lost Lights” with some playtime. You only need an Exotic Code, 125,000 Glimmer, and 1 Ascendant Shard.
If everything goes well, you can earn these materials with just one hour of investment. An Exotic Code can be obtained through the weekly “Xenology” quest from Xûr. He is in the game from Friday to Tuesday and offers this quest. A second code drops from the Season Pass at level 55.
- In addition, all three weapons are hardly used by Guardians in current builds.
The pulse rifle “Fallen Image” has even been so heavily nerfed that it is considered worthless in all challenging content. Additionally, the linear fusion rifle “Sleeper Simulant”, without the unlockable catalyst in the game, is quite weak and remains at best a niche choice even with it.
“This is not worth recommending!” Destiny 2 veterans love to take new players along, explain the game to them, and give valuable tips. However, the fact that Bungie now recommends such a poor selection to its unsuspecting New Lights through the pack makes little sense and frustrates the community. No one who knows the game would recommend this as “3 of the best exotic weapons,” they find.
That is also why this is, for some Guardians, merely a thoughtless and shabby decision by the developers to collect money in order to somehow recoup losses suffered last year.

Actually not pay-to-win: When looked at closely, the offer on Steam cannot be labeled as pay-to-win. The advantage gained through it is, in fact, nonexistent.
The player VeryRealCoffee still has a good piece of advice for Bungie:
If you want to do “The Final Shape” right and keep the players’ trust, start by reducing the shop to an absolute minimum. If it gets worse, I do not want to see another apology video from the developers. I would rather see one from the finance team or from those who make these decisions.
I will recognize Bungie for not being as bad as gacha games and the like, but if they want to make us happy, do not disappoint us with something tasteless like this offer.

This is the question that is now occupying the Guardians: At the moment, Bungie must prove itself to its community and win back a lot of trust. Therefore, for some players, the question arises as to why such a Starter Pack is introduced, which not only provides little value but also gives the impression that Bungie is trying to recoup lost money at the expense of the players?
Such a questionable business model will, in their opinion, only cast another shadow over the future of Destiny 2 and the relationship between Bungie and its players.
