Last night, the World-First race for the new raid “Crown of Sorrow” took place in Destiny 2. The well-known community figure Datto was once again involved. He believed that he could finally claim the title this time, as a glitch in the game made it look that way. However, less than 30 seconds later, he was devastated, as another team was faster in the raid.
What happened? After the new season of Opulence was initiated in Destiny 2 last night, the new raid also began. For players in this region, the gates to the “Crown of Sorrow” opened at 1:00 AM.
Many raid teams again engaged in a head-to-head race for first place. Once again, the well-known Datto was present, who jumped into the raid with his clan and reinforcements in the form of Slayerage from The Legend Himself.
This followed an exciting chase between the teams, which the players could follow in various livestreams. In the end, it seemed that Datto’s Math Class would indeed take the victory.
Once the final boss fell, the exotic weapon Tarrabah dropped for all members of the fireteam. The submachine gun was guaranteed to drop for the team that could conquer the raid first. A description of the weapon you can find here on Light.gg.
However, after the initial celebration came the rude awakening: Apparently, a little glitch played a trick on the guardians, as another clan managed to finish the raid four minutes ahead of Math Class and Slayerage.
The World First for the “Crown of Sorrow” went to Esoterickk and the guys from Be Bold.
What are World Firsts? In the World Firsts in Destiny, clans and fireteams compete against each other to conquer new raids first. They play “blind”, meaning they must discover how the raid looks and how the mechanics work themselves.
Guardians not only get the World-First title and fame and honor in the community, but often also nice gimmicks, such as a special emblem. Recently, Bungie has even been creating some bling in the form of belts for the winners, adorned with the guardians’ gamertags.
Why is this so bitter for Datto? The fact that the glitch with the Tarrabah struck Datto particularly hard is especially bitter. Already during the World-First race for the Forsaken raid “Last Wish”, there was incredible drama.
After Datto and his Math Class failed to conquer the raid as the first team, they at least wanted to grab the emblem that players received if they completed the raid within the first 24 hours. But they barely missed that too – by only two minutes.
This moment has been immortalized by the Destiny community in a meme: Whenever Datto or his clan is mentioned, “24:02” is at least posted once, a reminder that the guardians just missed the 24 hours by two small minutes.
By the way, Datto took his renewed miss of the World First with dark humor: After he first rejoiced and cheered, only to be devastated shortly thereafter, he didn’t want to let a “World First” be taken from him: In his stream, he dismantled the exotic weapon Tarrabah that he received through the raid.
Downcast, he said: “Bungie, take the weapon… just take it. The first dismantling of the Tarrabah in the world.”
