With this new system of the “2 Playlists”, Bungie aims to enable short matchmaking times and avoid empty playlists. However, this prevents PvP players from playing what they actually want.
The Iron Banner playlist, on the other hand, has a fixed game mode – this time the quite popular mode “Conflict”. Thanks to the Iron Banner, you can finally guarantee playing Conflict if you want to.
What is your opinion on this? Would you rather be able to select each mode individually and accept longer matchmaking times?
Here we present the 5 best Iron Banner weapons in Destiny 2.
In Destiny 2, the Iron Banner takes place in November 2017. PvP fans are especially excited about one thing.
This week, the second Iron Banner is taking place in Destiny 2. PC Guardians can dive into this monthly PvP event for the first time.
However, the Iron Banner is harshly criticized in the community. While it was considered a major event in Destiny 1, where top weapons could be earned, it is labeled the worst PvP event in Destiny 2, according to a survey. For many Guardians, the Iron Banner is not a reason to log into Destiny 2 at all.
The three biggest problems with the Iron Banner
The new Iron Banner has some criticized aspects. However, the fact that it’s rated so poorly has primarily three reasons:
- The Iron Banner mode itself is no longer special, but rather bland. Even this monthly event is played in 4v4. There was hope that at least the Iron Banner could be played with larger fireteams. Moreover, as in all other PvP modes, the level advantages are disabled. In Destiny 1, Light level still mattered, which contributed to the appeal of the Iron Banner.

- There are only tokens as match rewards. Players want loot drops at the end of matches, not a boring token system. After each match, players know there are only tokens as rewards. In Destiny 1, a perfectly rolled weapon could drop after every match. And that leads to probably the biggest problem:
- The loot is not motivating. The Iron Banner weapons do not stand out; only The Forward Path (auto rifle) or The Worn Edge (pulse rifle) are usable. But since the weapon perks are always fixed, it is sufficient to have these once. In Destiny 1, players could farm a highly rolled Clever Dragon for days, hoping to get a better roll every time. This motivated many Guardians in the long term.
In short: The loot rewards of the Iron Banner are boring. Especially when players already have those two or three Iron Banner weapons they wanted, there is no reason to play the Iron Banner anymore. Or is there?
Finally, a playlist with a fixed mode
A user recently wrote on reddit what he is most looking forward to in the Iron Banner: To the fixed Conflict playlist.
Thanks to the Iron Banner playlist, he can guarantee playing the game mode he wants. Over a thousand Guardians agreed with him that this is the best part of the Iron Banner.
In Destiny 2, there are otherwise only two playlists: Quickplay and Competitive. Each playlist comprises multiple PvP modes, where it is then randomly decided which mode is played.
If you are in the mood for some Control matches, you can only start the Quickplay playlist and hope that Control comes up. However, it can happen that even after 5 rounds, you haven’t played Control a single time. That is frustrating.
