The Trials of Osiris were a popular PvP mode in Destiny 1, but never really worked in Destiny 2. Until now. With new changes, the mode is reaching record levels and will even get better today, September 17.
This is the mode:
- The “Trials of Osiris” are a competitive PvP mode that came to Destiny 1 early, shaping its PvP. Teams of three Guardians faced off against each other: The goal was to play “flawlessly,” winning nine times in a row without losing once. Then you could fly to the “Lighthouse” and earn special rewards. The concept created excitement, bitter matches, frustration, and a lot of ambition. The mode was only active on weekends.
- In Destiny 2, the mode returned but failed to impress. This was mainly due to the overall weaker PvP of the successor. Additionally, cheats and hacks made the mode problematic. Consequently, the Trials were suspended for a long time.
- In Season 15, Bungie thoroughly revamped the mode and it is now more popular in Destiny 2 than ever before.
The Trials are this popular now: As a statistic shows, more Trials matches were played last weekend than ever before in the history of Destiny 2. Although Destiny 2 had fewer players in 2021 than at release and fewer participate in the Trials, every participating Guardian is playing significantly more matches than before.
The Trials have become more accessible due to changes and are no longer as merciless as before.
105,000 Achieved Flawlessly for the First Time
This is what Bungie says about the success: Bungie celebrates these changes in a blog post. They say:
- 750,000 players have played the Trials – 120,000 of them for the first time. 470,000 of them after a long absence from the Trials.
- 237,000 players achieved “Flawless” – 105,000 of them for the very first time.
From Saturday on, “Flawless” will probably be harder
These are the new changes: Already today, Friday, September 17, new changes to the Trials are set to activate:
- Bungie will activate penalties for “quitting.” Those who leave too many matches will receive a 30-minute timeout.
- Players who achieve 7 wins are now waiting too long for new opponents. Therefore, Bungie will create its own pool for “flawless player searches.” The pool is set to be active from Friday afternoon (in the US, so more like Saturday morning here).
- This way, weaker players are also protected from Flawless killers, who will then fight among themselves.
- Players who lose too often will receive assistance; they will be assigned to weaker teams so they can win as well. However, once they win, this assistance will be removed.
Are you looking for strong weapons that can make you sweat today? These are the 10 deadliest Trials weapons and there is a clear winner
This is surprising: One rubs one’s eyes at how quickly Bungie can react. Everything seems to be patched together quickly. The changes were only requested by players last week.
Bungie also states that they want to monitor the changes permanently and, if necessary, adjust them. It is particularly important for Bungie that although more people achieve “Flawless” than before, it is not just handed out freely. Achieving “Flawless” in the Trials should remain a special achievement in Destiny 2.
As a successor to “Trials of Osiris”, the mode “Gambit” was originally intended in Destiny 2. Hot matches are also possible there:
