In Destiny 2, the new Season 11 is set to begin soon. However, some players fear that there could be delays due to the protests in the USA – similar to what happened with CoD: Modern Warfare. What does Bungie say?
Is the start of Season 11 in danger? In Destiny 2, the eyes of many Guardians are fixed on June 9. That day, the current Season 10 will end and we are supposed to learn more about the future of Destiny 2 in a stream. Additionally, the new Season 11 is set to launch on June 9.
However, some players fear there might be delays – due to the situation in the USA. There have already been delays with some games and gaming events because of this. Also, many users in the official companion app were shown a season start date of June 16 instead of June 9, which caused additional confusion for some.
This is what Bungie officially says about the start of Season 11: Currently, there’s nothing concrete suggesting a delay – on the contrary. It seems that everything is set to proceed as planned next Tuesday.
On one hand, Bungie has already noted that the June 16 start date shown on the website and in the app is a bug.
On the other hand, yesterday, on June 4, Maurice Zerjav, the German Community Manager of Bungie, confirmed on Twitter that Season 11 will start on June 9 and addressed the issue with the season countdown, where some displayed an incorrect time. In that case, just restart the app.
In the current “This Week at Bungie” blog, the developers also discuss the start and Update 2.9.0 on June 9. The planned reveal on June 9 also seems to be safe and is being promoted by Bungie in teasers and in the TWaB. Nothing suggests a delay.
One can be fairly certain that Bungie will stick to its plans for next week, presenting and launching Season 11 while also discussing the further future of Destiny 2.
What are the concerns all about? At the end of May, African American George Floyd lost his life during a brutal police operation in the USA. Since then, there have been nationwide riots. Many people are taking to the streets to protest against racism and excessive police brutality – to this day.
Numerous figures from the video game industry have made clear statements on this issue and have taken a stand against violence and racism. Among other things, Infinity Ward postponed Season 4 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone for this reason as well as the new season of CoD: Mobile. Sony postponed its highly anticipated event for the PS5. Bungie also spoke out clearly against violence and racism.
Some players suspected that there might be delays for Destiny 2 as well.
How does it look? Are you already excited about the reveal and start of Season 11 as well as news about the upcoming fall expansion? Because it looks like both will be presented on June 9.
