In Destiny 2 the Guardian Games 2022 are currently taking place. However, it was revealed in the first week that some players are cheating for a rare emblem. Bungie has now released a fix, but instead of punishing the cheaters, they will even be rewarded at the end of the Guardian Games.
What are the Guardian Games struggling with? We had already reported on MeinMMO beforehand, that the Guardian Games are struggling with cheaters. Players shamelessly exploited an in-game mechanic to rack up a huge amount of points in the competitive playlists. With a high score, they positioned themselves among the top 10% of players who should have access to a very rare emblem.
However, these cheaters drove honest players out of the ranking, who were genuinely trying to achieve a high score just to barely qualify.
Bungie has caught wind of this and announced on Twitter that they have now addressed the problem. But instead of punishment or disqualification, the crafty Guardians will also be rewarded.
Rule Change – More Guardians Now Get the Emblem
What has Bungie changed? With other minor fixes from the new update, Bungie mentioned the following:
We have updated the Guardian Games community scores (including the top 10%) to ignore high scores achieved through repeated respawns of fireteam members. Everyone remains eligible for the top 10% emblem, inflated scores will not unfairly distort the “10%” threshold.
Bungie stated on May 11 via Twitter
However, that does not mean that the cheaters have been disqualified. Bungie means that players with such a “cheese score” will not be taken into account in the overall Guardian Games community scores. This gives them, with their extremely high score, an almost guaranteed chance to receive the emblem.
Do I still have a chance at the emblem? This means for you that the 10% pool of the “worthy” Guardians will be expanded. Thus, not only the cheaters benefit but also honorable players who have genuinely put in time and effort to obtain the emblem.
All you have to do is to be above the average of the overall score.
How high does the score need to be? The YouTuber “Cheese Forever” sets the minimum score at around 200,000 – 300,000 and states that this threshold must be reached or exceeded to secure the emblem.
What do you think about Bungie not taking a hard stance against the cheaters? Do you care or are you upset that they are being rewarded as well? Let us know in the comments what you think!
