Xur is a staple of the community in Destiny 1 and 2. He provides guardians with exotic goods from distant systems and supplies them with cryptic messages. Unfortunately, he is increasingly being ignored by long-time players. What Bungie has changed to make him more worthwhile, you can find out here.
What was the problem with Xur? The black market trader of the Nine supplied guardians in Destiny 1 with rare exotics that had fantastic stats. In Destiny 2, however, that was not the case. Xur was mainly used to obtain missing exotics for the collection. Armor with good stats? Not a chance.
Every now and then Xur would deliver some legendary God Rolls or armor from past seasons, but these were not enough to entice guardians to visit him. Bungie was aware of this and therefore announced a major overhaul for the tentacle-faced vendor. On June 7, 2024, it was finally time, as guardians can now interact with the new range of the vendor, but how good is it?
Expanded Offer, Reputation Rank, and More!
What has changed? First, the location has changed. It will now only be on the Tower and will also be marked on this map. His locations are no longer scattered all over the system on different planets.
His inventory has also changed. Xur now offers not only exotic weapons and armor but also catalysts, which rotate after each visit. Legendary weapons and armor are still included as usual.
A major new feature is his reputation rank system, which resembles that of the cryptarch. You earn reputation points when you spend Strange Coins at Xur. This allows you to obtain weapons, armor pieces, and powerful upgrades.
However, the most interesting change is something that could not be officially discovered yet. Through the tracking site light.gg, we got a brief overview of what Xur had to offer, and we were astonished. According to the data, the black market trader will even offer Artistic Armor – armor with guaranteed strong stats.
Whether the armors will be offered for sale randomly at some point is still unknown, but for this reason alone, the vendor could become worthwhile, especially for long-time players looking to complete their builds.
Is Xur worth it now? That depends on what you need. If you have no desire to farm catalysts, you can check in with Xur weekly to complete your collection. If the Artistic Armors are ever included in the inventory, long-time players will surely visit the tentacle-faced vendor.
Note that you need Strange Coins to purchase items from Xur. You receive them randomly from core activities like Strikes, Gambit, or the Crucible.
You need to be actively playing to be able to shop with Xur, as his prices are extremely high. However, if you want to know how the culmination of the Light and Darkness saga was initiated, we have just the thing for you: In Destiny 2, there is for the first time a mission for 12 players: It concludes the story after 10 years
