In Destiny 2, a video surprised the players. The cinematic caused cheers, but also puzzled faces. We attempt to shed some light on the darkness.
This is what the scene is about: During the reset on February 18, players were quite astonished: They were greeted by a cool video.
In the approximately one-minute cinematic, we witness Osiris visiting the Warmind on Mars. But see for yourself:
What did we see there? The exiled Warlock Osiris armed enters the Warmind facility and confronts Rasputin. Osiris accuses the AI of being a traitor and murderer, and he is unjustly worshipped like a god.
The two seem to be old acquaintances. Rasputin also knows what Osiris experienced in the Endless Forest and is confronted by the Warlock with a choice: He should take a stand in the war between Light and Darkness.
Just as Rasputin begins to speak, the cutscene ends. But the speculations and discussions of the Guardians are just beginning.
Osiris and Rasputin – Players Discuss Future and Significance
What the Guardians are discussing: On Reddit, the topic received over 5000 upvotes in a short time. In now 1300 comments, players discuss where Rasputin and Osiris know each other from, what this has to do with time travel, and how the Exo Stranger is connected.
The posts highlight:
- The Stranger known from Destiny 1 was asked by Rasputin to teach him time travel.
- Currently, lore experts agree. They assume the Stranger is the sister of Ana Bray.
- The Bray family designed the Warmind Rasputin to protect humanity in times long past.
- Osiris is himself a time traveler and in the story of Season 9, we help him protect the timeline.

So one can speculate here quite well. Is Bungie replacing the antagonist and letting Rasputin carry out the “future genocide”, or did Osiris see in a timeline how the Traveler created the Vex and Rasputin fled into the past (traitor, coward, murderer – and what Osiris said more…)
“Mac31” says: “Typical Osiris, he thinks he knows better once again.” Additionally, our reader points out that Rasputin does not trust the Traveler, just like Osiris himself.
But you also don’t want to fall into blind hype. Because often Destiny has raised cool stories, but then did not pursue them or did not connect the red threads.
This is why players celebrate the cinematic: The mere fact that such videos appear in the game is perceived by many Guardians as a step in the right direction.
A cinematic is already cooler than text

We remember the finale of Season 8. Back then, an interesting story about the consequences of our actions and the defeat of the Immortal Spirit was presented in text form on the Bungie site.
One must give Destiny 2 credit for having already surprised us in the current season with another cool story video. Generally, the focus is much more on a story being told within the game itself.
