Today, the expansion “30 Years of Bungie” launches in Destiny 2, and all players are invited to celebrate. Over three decades, the studio has worked on shooter hits like Halo, Destiny 1, and today’s Destiny 2, setting new standards. This evening, Bungie is kicking off its big birthday celebration, simultaneously filling the long wait for the next expansion, “The Witch Queen,” with fresh content.
But that’s not all. The developer also wants to thank its players, having prepared plenty of loot for this occasion. The new event represents 30 years of Bungie and is meant to celebrate a legendary community.
What players can expect at the birthday event: As usual, Destiny 2 players have received only sparse information on what exactly to expect. For now, we only know that abundant loot seems to be available in the new activities.
What to expect today after the reset at 6:00 PM in “Eternity”:
- 6-player activity “Trials of Eternity” – with player matchmaking
- New dungeon “Sog der Habsucht” – 3-player activity
- Xur’s Treasure Room
The two activities are expected to be accessible this evening, reminiscent of the legendary loot cave from Destiny 1. All of this carries a bit of the flair of a mysterious pirate adventure, where players can expect enormous treasures at the end.
Also, Xur and the Nine seem to play a significant role in the new activities. The mysterious NPC trader has already been seen in several screenshots related to the activity, as well as the mysterious blue horse made of stardust. The Destiny 2 community suspects that Xur is the adventurer mentioned in the announcement, who sacrificed his humanity for a treasure. The Nine will evidently also play a larger role.
- Additionally, the exotic rocket launcher “Gjallarhorn” returns to Destiny 2 through a quest. The weapon will also have the option for a catalyst, which can presumably be earned as well.
- There will be an armor set reminiscent of the design of the exotic hand cannon “Dorn”.
- Halo-inspired armors and weapons, ornament sets, gestures, sparrows, and ghost shells will also be found in the birthday bundle.
- Forsaken returns one last time, allowing players to experience the story of Cayde-6 and Crow/Uldren Sov for free once more. You can start the DLC through the quest archive terminal.
There may even be more secrets to uncover, but Bungie reveals nothing further and lets players discover everything themselves after tonight’s update.

Triumph moments 2021: With the update, the triumph moments 2021 also go live. This is supposed to meaningfully complement the contents of the 30th anniversary, as Bungie promises. The details are still unknown. However, if players complete all required triumphs, including several Grandmaster missions, and collect the rewards, they can unlock the “MMXXI” seal and the corresponding title.
Who can join? Bungie invites its players to participate in the free 6-player activity and the triumph moments 2021. However, if you want to explore all content, primarily the new dungeon, you must own the paid expansion pack “30 Years of Bungie”.
This was available either individually or in a bundle with the new DLC “The Witch Queen,” which will be released in February 2022. Bundle holders will gain access to additional reward chests in the free 6-player activity “Trials of Eternity”.
