A new quest has started in Destiny 2 that involves a noodle soup coupon that has been expired for decades. What’s it all about?
On August 21, just in time for the weekly reset, a new quest went live in Destiny 2. The quest is called “Cayde’s Spicy Noodle Soup”. It can be found directly in the milestone overview when you log in for the first time after the weekly reset.
What is the quest of Cayde-6 about?
To the ramen shop: The first step of the quest is to visit the ramen shop in the Tower Bazaar. It will be shown on the map. It’s this nice little food stand:
There is no sign over the ramen shop. If an “Interact” button is not initially displayed, move a bit along the left side of the shop or jump directly into the shop. The symbol should definitely appear there.
Now press Interact so you can collect a loot: an expired noodle soup coupon:
The description states that it is a coupon that is valid for a free noodle soup with gyoza as a side dish. However, it has been expired for decades.
Step 2 of the quest: There is no next step. That’s it. The quest is over. You now have an invalid coupon in your inventory to enjoy.
Is there really no next step regarding the noodle soup quest?
No stone was left unturned: Many Guardians quickly gathered on Reddit to figure out what could be done with the coupon:
- It was taken to several other ramen shops, such as the one on the downtown map
- It was brought to Cayde-6
- The noodle soup emote was used
- Lost sectors were completed, Cayde’s treasure chests were opened, and glimmer was farmed in heroic events
- It was taken to the chickens on the farm
All of this was done with the coupon in the inventory – but nothing came of it.
The quest is actually over after the first step: A few hours after the quest went live, community manager dmg04 posted on Twitter. He shared what many Guardians had already suspected: There is no second step. The noodle soup coupon is the reward and the end of the quest:
What is all this about? It is already known, that fate does not treat Cayde-6 particularly well in Forsaken. One can see this as a final quest in honor of Cayde, who is known to have loved eating noodle soup in ramen shops.
And what should I do now with the coupon?
If you dismantle the coupon, you can pick up a new one at the ramen shop in the Tower. In fact, it is possible to pull multiple expired coupons if you keep leaving the Tower area and then return to the shop.
The noodle soup coupon is like raisins and celery: Such useless items at the end of quests also existed in Destiny 1, namely raisins and celery.
The raisins were introduced by Bungie as a gag during the first Halloween festival in 2015. While many NPCs were handing out candies, the sour-faced Eris Morn was distributing raisins. Many Guardians understood this gag as a kind of “secret quest” and searched for something to do with the raisins. But the raisins remained useless.
The celery came the following year for the Halloween event in 2016. Here there was a quest that started with a box of raisins and ended with Eris Morn – who gives you a piece of celery (and the shader Super Black). Here, too, Guardians hoped they could do something with the celery.
However, that was not the case. Since then, the celery has gathered dust among many Guardians alongside the raisins in their vault.
The noodle soup coupon now joins the list of useless items. But who knows, one day it might come in handy!
What are you doing with your coupon? Are you storing it in your vault or will it be ruthlessly dismantled?
