Recently, discussions have intensified about whether previously collected equipment such as weapons and armor will be carried over into the second year of Destiny 2 and will still be useful for players. At E3 2018, Bungie confirmed: Year 1 gear will not be left behind.
Fans are concerned: Following the reveal of the Forsaken expansion and the presentation of future plans for Destiny 2, discussions ignited about whether weapons and armor from Year 1 will make the leap into Year 2.
Many Destiny veterans were worried that the previous Year 1 equipment might meet the same fate as in Destiny 1, where the gear was left behind with its old values and subsequently played almost no role.

Is it still worth hunting for Year 1 gear? Many fans questioned whether it’s even worth chasing certain items and spending a lot of time in Destiny 2 before the Forsaken add-on arrives on September 4th. Bungie now provided clarity at E3 2018.
Your current gear remains just as useful in Forsaken
Bungie avoids mistakes from Destiny 1: Fans who simply can’t live without their Better Devil, Midnight without Name, or the IKELOS weapons can rejoice.
As several Bungie officials confirmed in interviews and on social media, the entire legendary and exotic arsenal and the armor palette from Year 1 will still be relevant in Year 2.
Focus on the hobby aspect: Bungie wants to re-establish Destiny 2 as a hobby – and when talking about a hobby, they mean it sincerely. This also includes ensuring that the Guardians’ favorite weapons and armor are not left behind.

You need Forsaken: All legendary and exotic gear from Year 1 can therefore be raised to the new Power levels. However, owning the upcoming Forsaken expansion is essential for this.
Year 1 weapons with random rolls? The random rolls will, however, remain exclusive to Year 2 weapons (and those that follow). All weapons from Year 1 will still drop, but only with their old fixed perks. Some popular weapons from Year 1 will also return with random rolls.
What about mods for the previous equipment? It is still unknown whether the mod system will apply to the weapons from Year 1.
What do you think of this decision? Are you looking forward to being able to continue using some of your favorites? Or do you not care about the old stuff and only have eyes for the new equipment?
