Bungie recently launched an information offensive regarding Destiny 2 . They are now regularly discussing current urgent issues and the future of the shooter. However, what many players have long wished for is also met with criticism by many others. Why?
The current situation around Destiny 2 is as follows: With the ongoing Season 10, Destiny 2 has fallen into a significant slump. Many complain about too little content, a lack of innovations, or new reasons to stay engaged. Furthermore, the communication from the developers has been severely criticized.
They only seem to paint everything in a positive light. At the same time, they hardly address the main criticism points from the community and the most urgent problems of the game – such as cheaters or the increasingly larger imbalance between Eververse and in-game loot. Many Guardians no longer want to accept this.
The immediate future of Destiny 2 interests many. What will happen in the next Season 11 and beyond? Will everything remain as it is and Destiny 2 continue to run on low power? Or do the developers want to take the steering wheel? And if so – how? The players want answers.
In short: The mood has been low for many for some time, and players are increasingly losing interest in the game. Even Bungie finally admitted a few weeks ago: “We know that many are currently unhappy with Destiny 2”.
Communication Offensive Regarding Destiny 2
This is what Bungie is doing about it: To counteract the poor mood and finally provide players with some concrete answers, Bungie launched a communication offensive at the end of April.
Every week, the future of Destiny 2 and the biggest problems of the game are to be discussed for the foreseeable future – in the weekly developer blog “This Week at Bungie”, which always appears for us on the night from Thursday to Friday.
This is what Bungie has already discussed: This information offensive has been ongoing for 3 weeks now, and the studio has already addressed important issues such as loot imbalance, cheaters, the season model, and the annoying bounties. Here we summarize the most important points:
- Open Words: Destiny 2 presents plans against cheaters and for better Trials
- Destiny 2 brings an armor feature that many have been wishing for – Real Transmog
- Destiny 2 is revamping loot balance – tough activities should be rewarding again
- Destiny 2 is introducing radical changes to a core activity that annoys many
- Destiny 2: Don’t miss out – This is how Bungie wants to improve the seasons
- Destiny 2 is reworking the useless cult vendor Xur, it should be worthwhile again soon
- Destiny 2 for PS5, Xbox Series X officially confirmed – What does this mean for Destiny 3?
The community is divided on the suddenly increased need for communication
The communication offensive is ongoing and will continue this week. But what do the players say about it? How is it being received by the community?
Many wished for exactly this: Many players find Bungie’s increased willingness to talk and the now more open words very good.
As it has been in recent weeks, many have long wished for this. Countless fans are therefore asking to maintain the current level of communication and transparency.
This would do wonders for the mood surrounding the game and also contribute to a better relationship between Bungie and the community.
Therefore, there is also a lot of criticism: However, not everyone is happy with the current communication offensive, there is indeed a lot of criticism – even if one is quite pleased with the topics and plans that have been addressed so far.
Many players emphasize that Bungie is doing this for only one reason – when it comes to their finances. This is by no means the first time that communication has been criticized. And it is also not the first time that they become more open regarding their willingness to talk and then ramp it up. This was already the case with the first two DLCs, with Forsaken, the Annual Pass, and also with Shadowkeep.
This phenomenon, according to the criticism, is regularly observed before new releases or when there are already catastrophic crises and players visibly lose interest in Destiny, such as shortly after the launch of Destiny 2. Bungie wouldn’t move without reason.
Only when they want to sell something to the players again or when financial losses are imminent does something happen. After that, communication quickly returns to the absolute minimum necessary. This pattern has its roots in Destiny 1 and has been a part of the entire history of Destiny 2.
Moreover, the statements are essentially always the same. We hear you, everything will get better, everything will be awesome. Bungie doesn’t care about the community or better communication, but only about one thing – money.
What do you think? What do you think about this matter? Are you happy about the now regular updates and glad that important topics are finally being addressed? Or do you see it just like the critics, or similarly? Would you wish for such a level of communication to be maintained permanently?
By the way, even under the announced winner statue for the winners of the Guardian Games, many players expected something different: Destiny 2: Titans win Guardian Olympics – The prize for that is a joke
