In Destiny 2, Bungie promises exciting new content in 2018. And an annoying issue will soon be fixed …
Bungie released “This Week at Bungie,” the public letter to the community. In it, they usually make announcements or address current issues.
This week, however, the information in “This Week at Bungie” is quite limited. The developers primarily make promises. We summarize all the info.
Community Manager Cozmo first addresses the faction rally, where there are currently several issues:
- Faction Tokens: A mechanic was installed that does not grant Guardians any further rewards from Lost Sectors for a certain time. It has been noted that this mechanic is too “disruptive”. From now on, players should receive loot each time they open a chest. More info on this will follow before the next rally starts. We addressed the Faction Token issue in more detail here.
- Faction Weapons: Currently, faction engrams do not drop any new faction weapons of Season 2. Cozmo explains that this is intentional. The weapons will be made available gradually throughout the season. He apologizes once again for the lack of clear communication on this. They will inform players about how the rewards will behave for the next Iron Banner. You can read more about the missing faction weapons here.

Bungie is currently working on many things
Sandbox Design Lead Josh Hamrick also addresses the community:
- The sandbox team is working hard on the promises that Bungie made last week.
- The overhaul of the exotics is progressing well. They are working on it under the leadership of Jon Weisnewski, the senior game designer. This is expected to be introduced into the game in spring.
- They discussed the balance adjustments expected for Season 3. More information about this will likely be available in the future.
- Grant MacKay, gameplay designer at Bungie, has devised an exciting plan for the mods that will become more powerful and significant in the future.
- And the rest of the crew, according to Hamrick, is working on “super exciting new content” that is intended to bring smiles to the Guardians’ faces before the year ends. And this content is just the beginning, Hamrick teases.
What this exciting content refers to can now be speculated on at will. Perhaps he means the innovations that have already been announced for autumn by game director Christopher Barrett, such as revisions of weapon slots, the Crucible playlists, and the introduction of masterwork exotics. But this could also be an early teaser for a major expansion expected at the end of the year. The future will tell.
Otherwise, there is another important piece of information in “This Week at Bungie”: The waypoint at Ikora Rey will finally be fixed. For weeks, it has been displayed in the Tower that she has a quest for you. But that is not the case. The annoying waypoint is expected to be fixed on January 30.
At the end of the blog post, Cozmo admits: “We realize that you are less interested in promises of updates, but more interested in the updates themselves.” More concrete information will likely follow next week.
