In Destiny 2 it is finally here: The mysterious rocket launcher is coming to the game.
In November 2016, we reported on three lost exotics that were hiding in the databases but were not yet in the game. These were a mysterious rocket launcher and two machine guns resembling the Thunderlord.
With the “The Dawning” event in December 2016, the Thunderlord variants were introduced: Nova Mortis and Abbadon. But there was still no sign of the rocket launcher. It is still not in the game. And now we also know why: It is coming to Destiny 2!
Dubious Volley – What’s the deal with the rocket launcher?
Already some time ago, with “The Taken King”, the rocket launcher was found in the databases. Thanks to this icon, it received creative nicknames – one of the decent ones is “The Microphone”:
However, in the English-speaking community, the name “Dubious Volley” has become established. The reason: With “Rise of Iron,” two perks were implemented that are still not active but can be associated with this rocket launcher:
- Dubious Ordnance – This weapon delivers a high-energy volley of explosive ordnance.
- Dubious Munitions – Kills from the volley add another round to the volley.
Since the weapon fires “volleys” according to the perks, this thing is unofficially called “Dubious Volley”. By “volleys,” here, we mean salvos of mini-rockets that are supposed to flow out of the rocket launcher. The many holes that define the appearance of the weapon also suggest this. The second perk, “Dubious Munitions,” might mean that the stream of mini-rockets will be extended.
Sounds exciting, looks exciting. With such a weapon, many Guardians wanted to shoot into the faces of their opponents. Game Director Luke Smith confirmed, however, regarding “The Taken King,” that it is a weapon planned for TTK but was scrapped. With the introduction of the perks with RoI, the hunt fever broke out again. Guardians turned over every stone in Destiny, hoping for a quest for the Dubious Volley.
Now we know: The efforts and hopes were in vain. In Destiny 1, there will probably be nothing more with this rocket launcher. But it is confirmed in Destiny 2.
Dubious Volley – It’s coming!
The Dubious Volley appears in several scenes of the shown gameplay material for Destiny 2. In two pictures, you can see the Dubious Volley in all its glory, in other scenes, you can even see it in action – from the first-person perspective of a Guardian:
The Dubious Volley deals Arc damage and releases, as the perks from RoI have already revealed, salvos of mini-rockets. In the gameplay material, it seems that the salvos are homing. However, this can only be speculated. There is also no guarantee that the above-mentioned perks will come in this form in Destiny 2. These can still be revised or replaced.
Here you see the Dubious Volley in moving images:
By the way: It is not yet officially confirmed that this rocket launcher will be exotic in Destiny 2. Anything else would be a big surprise.
