In Destiny 2, players are searching for the popular Exotic Hawkmoon. We now know how you can obtain the Exotic revolver in Season 12 – and we already have an initial idea of the returner’s overhaul.
This is what it’s about: The revolver Hawkmoon is an Exotic that players know and love from Destiny 1. Even before the recently released expansion Beyond Light, Destiny director Luke Smith got the Guardians excited about their “baby” Hawkmoon.
However, so far there is no trace of the weapon. Now it is officially confirmed when you can expect the Exotic and how you will obtain Hawkmoon. MeinMMO presents you with the latest info.
How to get Hawkmoon: You will not receive Hawkmoon as part of Beyond Light, but in Season 12. The Season of the Hunt has already partly started, but will officially kick off on November 17.
- You will receive Hawkmoon as a quest reward in Season 12.
- The quest is only available to owners of the Season of the Hunt.
- We do not yet know exactly when the quest will start. However, Season 12 ends on February 9, and Hawkmoon must be in the game by then at the latest.
The coveted Exotic is therefore guaranteed and is not tied to your loot luck. You just have to be a little patient; it is also possible that the quest goes live right at the reset on Tuesday.

Why do Guardians love Hawkmoon so much? One reason for its popularity is the aesthetics of the Exotic. Revolvers are already favored among Guardians. When the weapon is characterized by simple elegance and a hint of danger, it is gladly used.
Furthermore, there’s the power fantasy that Hawkmoon catered to: Random rounds in the magazine could deal enormous damage – but it was a kind of gambling. If Fortuna was kind, enemy Guardians would drop after a shot.
In the early days of Destiny 1, PvP was dominated by the “Trinity of Exotic Hand Cannons”. Guardians nostalgically remember this, and in Destiny 2, the Trinity is once again complete with Hawkmoon, “The Last Word“, and “Dorn“.
How strong is Hawkmoon in Destiny 2? The exact perks of the Exotic are still unknown. However, we know that Hawkmoon will not rely on the high luck factor anymore.
In the trailer for Season 12, the weapon plays a prominent role:
- Hawkmoon takes down an enemy Guardian in PvP with 3 critical hits – therefore, it is probably a 140 hand cannon (as it was in Destiny 1).
- Immediately after that, the Exotic lights up and takes down the next Guardian with just one loaded shot.
- Keep in mind, we do not know how many hits Hawkmoon landed prior or if the second Guardian had full health.
