Season 14 of Destiny 2 is slowly coming to an end, and players have now experienced the epilogue. This hints at great things for the future, and the story cutscene reminds one of an Avengers film. However, some felt that the finale was too little overall.

What’s the deal with the epilogue? Season 14 is entering its final weeks, ending with the weekly reset on August 24 and the start of the new Season 15.
Yesterday, on August 10, the last content communicated on the official roadmap of the outgoing season was released – the epilogue. Many players had speculated about what it could be – an event? The season finale? Now one can finally get a picture of it.
So far, the epilogue has turned out to be a quest with a mix of audio recordings, a mission, a new story cutscene, and conversations with important protagonists. This continues the seasonal story and drives it toward its peak. It takes a dark turn, raising more new questions about the future than it answers existing ones.
What’s in the epilogue
The key points in brief: The epilogue begins with an ominous message from the Splicer Servitor in the HELM base, as well as a transmission from Lakshmi-2. She announces that she is letting the Vex into the Last City of humanity to eliminate the Eliksni seeking refuge there.
This had been hinted at since the start of the season; Lakshmi had visions of the Eliksni being part of an armed conflict in the city, which is why she deemed them dangerous and rejected the alliance with Mithrax and his House of Light. But as it seems now, it was her own doing, and she had assistance from one of our greatest heroes – the Warlock Osiris. Or one of our greatest enemies. But more on that shortly. And Lakshmi herself is killed during the events – apparently by someone she trusted.
The Guardians then fight against a Vex overpower at the Eliksni shelter in the city, and after a long fight, they manage to close the portal and stop the invasion.
Cutscene straight out of Avengers: Here there is now a cutscene where Destiny 2 gathers its heroes in true Avengers style and lets them spectacularly fight against the Vex. Mithrax and Saint-14 now fight side by side, telling each other what an honor it is to fight alongside one another. Ikora, who had remained bland for a long time in the past, has a spectacular appearance and helps the Guardians achieve victory with a Nova Bomb.
Other Guardians like Zavala or Amanda Holiday also fight side by side here to fend off the threat.
After the battle, there are some new dialogue lines when you speak to some of the participants in the Tower.
You can watch the whole thing in the video here:
Destiny 2 is likely to lose a major hero – for now? The scene also reveals the dark fate of the Warlock Osiris – one of the city’s greatest heroes and actually our ally.
At the beginning of the battle in the city, he is actually considered missing. However, during the cutscene, you can see him standing off to the side of the battle on a building, watching the fight grimly – without helping. Ultimately, he turns away and disappears.
This is likely the definitive proof that Osiris, whom we have dealt with in the last 3 seasons, cannot be the legendary Warlock who always had the best interests of the city and the Traveler in mind and did everything for it. The real Osiris would have never just stood by and watched idly while his friends and allies fought for their lives.
The most common theory, which also closely relates to the leaks regarding the Witch Queen expansion, is that Osiris is actually Savathûn – the Witch Queen herself, the main antagonist of the upcoming expansion, who has been pulling strings in the background for a long time with cunning and trickery. It is also assumed that this Osiris has murdered Lakshmi-2.
This theory actually has its roots in the Season of the Hunt, where Osiris mysteriously lost his Light and his Ghost Sagira died.
What does this mean for the future? Generally, the recent events in the context of the epilogue have some implications for the further course of the story but also raise a lot of questions that will probably be answered in part during the Witch Queen or possibly already in the coming Season 15.
If Savathûn has been in the city all along, it is highly likely that she is planning something enormous there. But what is it? Who else might have been under her influence? What happened to the real Osiris, and is his Ghost Sagira really dead? This storyline is certainly far from over.
How are players reacting? Overall, many find the story and its recent developments, including the latest cutscene, good. But there is clearly criticism.
Many players find it too predictable and too stretched out in the context of the season. Overall, some expected more from the epilogue, which was prominently presented with its own tile in the roadmap. A few new dialogue lines, a short cutscene, and an otherwise completely identical mission – that is simply too little for a worthy season finale that they now want to pompously sell as “epilogue”.
In short: Story-wise, many find the epilogue itself good, but too predictable, too short, and in terms of the mission, too unimaginative, which has disappointed some players.
Is more to come? Yes, according to data mining, that is not everything yet. Next week, at least one more mission should come. However, whether something exciting or more substantial will be added in this context remains to be seen.
How are you finding the epilogue of the outgoing Season 15 so far? Is your Guardian heart satisfied or was it also too little for you and are you now disappointed? And what do you think will happen with Osiris and Savathûn? Let us know in the comments, and share your views with other readers of MeinMMO.
