The most interesting details in the universe of Destiny 2 are often placed subtly and initially inconspicuously by Bungie. In the Season of the Lost, a certain weapon has now returned that means no good for all main characters. Bungie confirms: “This is not a coincidence,” thereby spoiling the future death of an NPC in the upcoming expansion Witch Queen.
In the past, Bungie has been willing to let very popular characters die dramatically to keep the story exciting. In the very successful DLC Forsaken, it was Cayde-6. Now a major loss is looming again, and it is the same weapon as before that has revealed this to us.
This weapon is: “Spoiler Alert” is a legendary pistol in Destiny 2. It was first added to the game in May 2018 when the “Destiny 2: Warmind” DLC was released. With the start of the current Season of the Lost in August 2021, the pistol has now returned to the Vanguard’s loot pool.
Why “Spoiler Alert” is so special: The weapon itself is basically nothing special. But those who read its description find out: “Someone will die.”
Normally, this is nothing new, one might think. After all, players in Destiny 2 are constantly taking down enemies with their weapons. But with this pistol, it’s a bit different. It can see into the future and has proven this in the past.

“Spoiler Alert” evokes bad memories: Bungie has already announced the demise of a beloved character in Destiny 2 with the pistol “Spoiler Alert”. Back then, in the Forsaken expansion, it was Cayde-6, and that was a severe loss for many players that still hurts today.
No wonder that players wondered if the return of the pistol was really just a coincidence.
In a chat interview with GamesRadar, Nikko Stevens, Senior Narrative Designer at Bungie, specifically dismissed the possibility of a mere coincidence.
Bungie confirms: “This is not a coincidence.”
When asked about this in the interview, Nikko Stevens said, “This is not a coincidence.” He did not want to reveal more and added, “That’s all I will say.”
It is therefore very likely that a main character will die in the upcoming expansion “Witch Queen”. Players are already speculating about which popular character is at the top of Bungie’s hit list.
These main characters are currently in question:
- Commander Zavala:
He was already speculated to be the next main character to die in the last Season of the Chosen. That has not been confirmed. Therefore, many players consider this rather unlikely. His role in the current Season 15 is anyhow only minor. - Ikora Rey:
She is already closer to the current events surrounding the machinations of Savathun. After her mentor Osiris went missing, Ikora tries to understand the connections. It is quite possible that she will become important again in the upcoming DLC Witch Queen. But if Ikora, the Warlock Vanguard, is indeed to die, what will remain of the Vanguard? - Mara Sov:
If her brilliant plan doesn’t work out, she might die trying to outsmart Savathun. It wouldn’t be the first time. Mara Sov already died at the beginning of the “Taken King” in 2016. But would anyone really mourn her, knowing that she manipulatively sacrifices her own family? - Crow, formerly Uldren Sov:
After Crow learned this week in the ongoing story of Season 15 who he really is, one wonders if he can find peace with that. Current events indicate that he has traveled to Venus to do something that even his spirit doesn’t know. However, he is also the character most integrated into the stories of Seasons 14 and 15. Perhaps with the start of Witch Queen, he will find his true purpose. It is more likely though that he will continue Cayde’s bet and take his place in the Vanguard. - Osiris:
He is favored by most players and insider sources as one of the most likely candidates. Savathun used Osiris in the last Season 14 to infiltrate the city and spy on the Guardians. After this deception became known, the question arises whether Osiris is truly being held captive or if he is already dead. The 14th Saint would hit hard by this news. He is still looking for his partner. - Eris Morn:
A main character who currently plays no role at all is Eris Morn. But players think she is not the most unlikely candidate.
In the aforementioned interview, Bungie specifically also addressed Eris and stated: “Eris has not quite succeeded, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t interested in telling stories with Eris. It just means we’ll tell this story in a different release.”
For Eris or “Muddle Morn”, as players affectionately call her, that would definitely complete the circle. She has already endured much from Savathun, and perhaps her sacrifice will ensure that the Hive Queen can be finally defeated.
What Bungie revealed in the interview
In addition to the announcement that a main character will soon leave Destiny 2, Bungie has revealed even more to the players.
- Caiatl is not the last we have seen of her. She is currently communicating with Zavala to discuss current developments, such as the “Savathun situation” in the Dreaming City.
- Mithrax and Saint-14 will be more in focus in the story again in the future.
- Calus, the first raid boss of Destiny 2 and Caiatl’s father, is not dead.
This will make many players happy as his character is very popular. Maybe we’ll meet him again in a corrupted form? - Bungie believes that players still do not realize how important Xivu Arath is and will be. Besides Savathun, we should not take our eyes off her either.
What do you think? Which main character must leave Destiny 2 soon and which one would you personally be most reluctant to part with? Or was Cayde the biggest loss for you so far? Let us know in the comments.
