What kind of weapon is this? This is the exotic variant of the assault rifle “Khvostov 7G-02.” In Destiny 1 and with Destiny 2: New Light, players were handed this rifle as their first weapon – Fallen threatened to kill you, and with this weapon, you could defend yourself for the first time.
Although the rifle was quickly replaced by better weapons, many Guardians haven’t forgotten their first kills with this weapon. For this reason, Bungie brought the rifle back as an exotic variant in Destiny 1: Rise of Iron.
Guardians could now customize the rifle in various ways: sights, fire modes, barrels, fire rate, and other perks made the rifle a solid and versatile weapon for all activities.
Unfortunately, the exotic rifle “Khvostov 7G-0X” did not exist in Destiny 2 – until now. Bungie has teased the modern variant of the Khvostov in its latest teaser on X (formerly Twitter) and briefly showcased it in action. It’s supposed to get a new exotic perk, but something seems off.
New Trailer May Cause Disappointments
What has changed? Bungie reveals in its latest teaser on X the exotic Khvostov with a new, rounder design, a more modern sight, and fresh paint. Additionally, a new exotic perk is supposed to ensure that every seventh shot of yours ricochets off to further enemies.

Whether the seventh shot continuously ricochets until no enemies remain is unfortunately unknown. No perks or further customization options are revealed either. We’ve watched the trailer multiple times and couldn’t determine in the respective cuts whether the Guardian pulls the trigger with different fire modes.
If the weapon appears solely with its new intrinsic perk and completely forgoes its former customization options, it would be a hard blow for nostalgia fans. After all, the rifle has the appearance of the old paid ornament “Air Traffic Control,” which one could purchase in Destiny 1 – although many Guardians are likely keen on the pristine unpainted look.
What do fans say about the return? Many Guardians are ecstatic on X. They are excited that their old iconic rifle is making a comeback with new gear; others are skeptical. Here’s what can be heard:
