Destiny 2 has already confirmed that one of the big raids from Destiny 1 will return next year. Since then, players have speculated about which one it could be. In an interview, Joe Blackburn has now narrowed down the possible options further.
Especially the endgame is interesting for Destiny 2 players. It’s what will keep them occupied for a long time. Raids are the best part of that.
That’s why players want to know what they can look forward to in the coming year.
What we know so far: It is known that with “The Witch Queen”, among other contents, there will also be a completely new raid. Additionally, a known raid from the content vault will be brought back. However, it has remained unclear which of the old raids from Destiny 1 that will be.
After “The Vault of Glass” had its return in 2021, there are only three other candidates that could be considered.
- Crota’s End, the raid from the expansion “The Dark Below” in 2014.
- King’s Fall, from the expansion “The Taken King” in 2015
- And Wrath of the Machine, from the expansion “The Rise of Iron” in 2016
Which of these is the most likely? Considering the current story, it would be very fitting if the rest of Savathun’s family would also get involved. It would at least incorporate part of the past story into the current narrative.

Destiny 2 plans to “deliver something as great as the return of the Vault of Glass. I think it’s safe to say that it will be one of the big raids that takes one out of the equation.”
This gives two important hints:
- The only raid with a ship would be King’s Fall. It plays on the Dreadnaught of Oryx.
- Oryx dies in the King’s Fall raid, which “takes one out of the equation”.
The Oryx raid would fit very well into the story
It would also fit thematically: The Oryx raid fits very well with the current story. Savathun is not only the Witch Queen from the upcoming expansion. She is also the sister of Oryx, the Taken King, and Xivu Arath, the War God of the Hive. These three beings founded the Hive as we know it today. So there is plenty of reason to believe that Bungie will actually bring all three back together.
If it is confirmed that Oryx and thus “King’s Fall” is the next legacy raid that Bungie brings to Destiny 2, it would not be for the faint of heart.
What makes the Oryx raid so difficult? The King’s Fall raid is considered one of the hardest raids from Destiny 1. It has nine separate areas – some platforms and a lot of puzzles. It’s not just about shooting everything.
All four bosses and many of the mechanics require a high level of coordination from each player. And that’s just the normal mode. The raid also had a Hard Mode. Similar to the mode we now know as Grandmaster Raid.
How was it with the Vault of Glass? The Vault of Glass, the current legacy raid, returned to Destiny 2 in a similar manner. It was free for everyone and rewarded players at the Grandmaster difficulty level with the coveted time-lost weapons.
