In Destiny 2, the two DLCs Forsaken and Shadowkeep receive a loot upgrade, especially the cool dungeons are supposed to be rewarding again. However, this doesn’t please all Guardians.
This loot is coming: The Dreaming City and the Moon are getting new loot in Season 13. 4 weapons from the arsenal of Forsaken and 4 weapons from Shadowkeep will return in updated form in the loot pool of these locations. Additionally, Warlocks, Hunters, and Titans will receive 2 updated armor sets each.
The returning guns are not just supposed to have a higher infusion cap. The 8 weapons will return to Destiny 2 with an adjusted perk pool.
Season 13 brings back these weapons:
- Awakened Watch (Hand Cannon)
- Restless (Rocket Launcher)
- Grant (Scout Rifle)
- Told Again (Shotgun)
- Renegade (Sniper Rifle)
- Foreboding (Pulse Rifle)
- Heretic (Rocket Launcher)
- Rogue (Slug Shotgun)
Why all this? The Moon (2019) and the Dreaming City (2018) are paid DLC locations. Since Beyond Light (2020), there’s been little relevant loot here. Apart from the raids, there’s hardly any point in participating in activities, as the weapons or armor cannot be used in the new content since Beyond Light.
It was particularly frustrating for players who recently returned and caught up on the two old DLCs. The praised dungeons – with their thick atmosphere – can be played, but do not contribute to advancement.
The Lost Sectors on the Moon also receive the known difficulties from Europe and the Cosmodrome, heroic and master. This makes it possible to specifically farm exotics if one perseveres solo.
The dungeons receive special treatment
Forsaken and Shadowkeep each brought a new dungeon into the game:
- The Broken Throne (Forsaken) takes players into a dark fairy tale version, and at the end, a witch and an ancient curse await the Guardians.
- The Pit of Heresy (Shadowkeep) requires players to delve deeper into a trap-filled stronghold beneath the Moon’s surface until they encounter a knight with a flaming sword.
This is only available in the dungeon: In the mini-raids, you should encounter special versions of the listed weapons starting from Season 13. The perks you receive here cannot drop on the regular versions of the weapons.
- What perks those are is currently unknown.
- The pulse rifle Foreboding is still exclusive to the dungeon.
The armors from the dungeons will also have guaranteed high status values.
- However, there are no more guaranteed masterworks for completing the pit.
- Upgrade level 7 is now the upper limit – for this, the armor has guaranteed 2 status values at +16 (class items are not loot after the boss fight).
The “new” loot does not please all Guardians
Since Destiny 2 sent many weapons into retirement, the relevant arsenal of Guardians has shrunk significantly. The selling point for the weapon sunset (Sunsetting) was actually that Bungie was introducing powerful weapons into the ecosystem, but the sandbox will only plague them for 1 year – thus fostering more creativity and variety.
- Unfortunately, however, there was initially little replenishment for the retired weapons.
- Only with the raid weapons from the Deep Stone Crypt and an emergency loot expansion did improvements occur.
- We already know 9 new weapons that are coming with Season 13.
- However, in Season 13, in February 2021, 22 more weapons will go into retirement.
- Bungie promised that each season more fresh loot will come than will disappear.
This is now being criticized: The “new” weapons from Shadowkeep and Forsaken are by no means fresh loot for all Guardians. Even if the new perk combinations are likely to be strong, some Guardians see the lukewarm reheating of familiar weapons as a poor solution – especially not in the long run.
The realization of the weapon sunset also stirs heated debates on Twitter:
Sure, it is much easier to upgrade existing guns than to design new ones, add sound effects, and come up with entirely new perks, but the feeling of something “new” is hard to achieve with familiar guns in the hands of the Guardians.
Do you think this way the DLC locations and especially the cool dungeons will become relevant again? Or is it not a good solution to sell old guns with new perks as fresh loot? Let us know in the comments.
