5 years after Forsaken and the death of his character, Destiny 2 will once again bring back actor Nathan Fillion (Rookie, Castle) and his character Cayde-6. It is said that there can be no end to the saga without him.
What kind of character is this? Since 2014, there have been 3 important characters who are considered mentors for the 3 classes in Destiny 2. At the beginning of Destiny, all 3 were voiced by well-known actors from TV series:
- Ikora Rey – the Warlock leader, initially voiced by Gina Torres and later by Mara Junot
- Zavala – the boss of the Titans, voiced by the late Lance Reddick
- Cayde-6 – the leader of the Hunters, voiced by the witty Nathan Fillion
However, Cayde-6 was the only one of these characters who met a spectacular end in the game for dramatic reasons. After 4 years of Destiny, at the beginning of the Forsaken expansion, Cayde-6 died heroically.
Guardians thought: Bungie would bring back Cayde-6 soon, but they did not
How was his death discussed? It was suspected back in 2018 that Bungie would not follow through and would soon bring back Cayde-6. Because his character was probably the most popular NPC in Destiny 2.
People joked that Cayde-6 would soon find his way back to Destiny 2 as “Cayde-7”.
But over the years, while Cayde played an indirect role, his sacrifice and fate were continually remembered, he himself and actor Nathan Fillion remained absent.
This will change: During the showcase for Destiny 2: The Final Shape, it was officially confirmed on August 22 that Nathan Fillion and Cayde-6 will return to Destiny 2. There were already signs of this back in May.
In the showcase for “The Final Shape,” it was said that there is no way to conclude the saga of Light and Darkness without Cayde-6 on board. He is the glue that holds Zavala and Ikora Rey together. His reappearance helps the characters reflect on their decisions made without him.
Developers stated that Fillion immediately slipped back into his role as Cayde-6. It was fantastic to watch him do so.
It should create the feeling that the “old band” is coming together again.
When does this happen? The expansion Destiny 2: “The Final Shape” will be released on February 27, 2024.
