As part of the May Iron Banner, the popular map Bannerfall from the predecessor makes its debut in Destiny 2. However, the return of this Crucible map has mixed feelings in the community.
On May 22, 2018, the first Iron Banner of Season 3 starts. In addition to new weapons and ornaments, this one-week PvP event comes with a new PvP map. With Bannerfall, a popular Crucible map from Destiny 1 is making a comeback. Many fans are happy about the return. However, there are also critical voices.
Bannerfall comes to Destiny 2
About a month ago, the community on Reddit was still asking for the return of the popular map. At that time, Community Manager Cozmo said that they would pass this fans’ request to the developers. And the Guardians didn’t have to wait long – already on May 22, Bannerfall will return in an updated look. Bungie announced this recently on Twitter.
What is Bannerfall? The original Bannerfall is a nearly symmetrical medium-sized map, particularly popular among fans in the Control and Rift modes. The map was added with the “The Taken King” expansion in Destiny 1.

The map was set in an adjacent abandoned tower and offered a well-balanced mix of numerous sniper lanes, close combat hot spots, and flanking opportunities. The balcony sniper duels at the beginning of each round, as well as the fight for heavy ammo at the iconic tree in the central courtyard of the map, quickly became legendary.

What does Bannerfall look like for Destiny 2? The revised map seems to have lost little of its original charm. Where the characteristic tree once stood, only a stump remains. The destruction of the architecture is also more pronounced than in the predecessor. In addition, there are now more Cabal banners on the walls. However, otherwise, the layout of the map appears almost unchanged in the material shown so far.
What do fans say about the return? The community has received this news mostly positively. Many are happy about the return, as it is one of the most popular maps from Destiny 1, which was also designed from the beginning for the 6v6 format. However, there are also critical voices accusing Bungie of further lack of creativity and content recycling.
What do you think of the return of the Bannerfall map? Are you looking forward to 6v6 Guardian duels with a touch of nostalgia? Or should Bungie rather deliver new maps?
