The beta of Destiny 2 contains more content than previously known. Bungie discusses the goals of the beta and an uncut story mission.
In the run-up to the beta, Bungie released a podcast in which the developers talk casually for 45 minutes about Destiny 2 and everything under the sun.
There are some interesting details about the upcoming beta of Destiny 2, which goes live today, July 18, at 7 PM on PS4.
The goals of the “Destiny 2” beta
The beta is primarily a test, according to the developers. They need to test the background services and servers before the main game launches in September. They are checking if the login, matchmaking, and internal processes work as planned. The beta is meant to be an initial stress test.
Moreover, they want to gather data and feedback on the balance. Therefore, you can already test a substantial 6 subclasses and various weapons in the beta. Bungie’s sandbox team will examine the results closely and will make the necessary adjustments before the launch, especially in PvP.
Another goal is: They do not want to reveal too much with the beta. Many areas of the game should be tested, but you will only discover the big surprises of Destiny 2 in September.
There will be much new content in the sequel that has not yet been discussed. They want to preserve the joy of discovering something on your own and being surprised for the Guardians.
Secrets in the beta
In the beta, you can experience much of what makes Destiny 2 exciting: You can shoot aliens in the face, you can shoot other Guardians in the face, there is a story mission with cinematics, there is a strike, two PvP modes, a plethora of weapons, and Guardian abilities.
Regarding the story mission, it was said that this would be available in the beta – unlike the play events – in its uncut version. In other words, you can play the full mission this week.
Bungie revealed about the beta content: They have publicly disclosed the beta content, but there are still things to discover that have not been discussed yet. Game Director Luke Smith already mentioned at E3 that the beta would contain secrets. We are curious to see what those will be.
By the way: The “Destiny 2” beta involves months of work. Compared to other games’ betas, this one is also extremely extensive. After all, they want to give the Guardians a lot to test. However, they were relieved when the beta build was completed so they could focus fully on the main game again.
