Destiny 2 is set to receive a new element in the upcoming expansion. If the information is to be believed, the mysterious “Vapour” will be like 2 Exotics that Guardians are already playing with. What is the leak about and when will there finally be official information?
Attention: Potential spoilers for the future of Destiny 2 – you have been warned.
What is the new element supposed to be?
- Many Guardians are firmly convinced that we will soon be able to play the new element “Vapour” in Destiny 2.
- In English, Vapour means steam and is said to be quite toxic.
- This will bring the next “dark element” into play with the upcoming expansion Witch Queen.
- The information about the new damage type is revealed in a major leak that is currently being discussed hotly.
This is the leak: The information comes from a massive document containing almost 500 lines of patch notes and developer notes. The leak was created in January 2021 and has been steadily updated with new entries. Guardians are discussing the information about the new Vapour element once again (via Raidsecrets on reddit).
However, please note that this is not official information from Bungie and the entries could simply be outdated. So take all predictions with a healthy dose of skepticism. MeinMMO has dealt extensively with the big leak:
It is shocking how high the hit rate of the predicted information is. Just last week, on July 6, it was confirmed, for example, that the Time-Lost Raid Weapons have 2 perks each per slot, setting them apart from other master weapons. The leak had known this for months.
Vapour, as toxic as the Thorn
How is Vapour described? Vapour is clearly described in the leak as the “5th element”. There is also the note: “Think of Thorn” and “DoT”. This means Damage over Time, i.e., damage that lasts longer, like the toxic ticks from the Exotic Thorn. Some confusion is caused by the note “Counter-System” that appears in the description of Vapour.
There is still another Exotic that already relies on this toxic damage type: the Warlock gloves Necrotic Grip. Thorn and the toxic gloves together are a popular combo for infecting entire hordes of enemies: Double Poison Build is the new star in Destiny 2 – Here’s how to build it.
According to the Guardians, the toxic element fits perfectly with the setting of the “Witch Queen” expansion. Bungie had hinted at Beyond Light that we would likely receive more dark elements in the future.
We will finally know more about Witch Queen soon
When will there be official information? On August 24, Bungie will hold a reveal stream. Just in time for the start of Season 15, there should be information about the new Destiny chapter and the “Witch Queen” expansion.
The prominently placed Hive rune on the teaser image for the stream reminds the Guardians of Savathûn, and the toxic green reinforces the belief in the new Vapour element:
Confirmed information from Bungie regarding Witch Queen is still hardly available. We know that the expansion has been postponed to early 2022 and that the eponymous Witch Queen Savathûn will be our main enemy.
Will we see the new element in action on August 24? The reveal of Beyond Light in the summer 2020 stream introduced the Guardians to the icy powers for the first time. It is quite possible that Bungie will handle this year’s reveal in a similar fashion.
What do you think, is the toxic Vapour element almost set for Witch Queen? Or is the leak seriously mistaken, and worst-case scenario, there is no new element in the new expansion? What new damage type would you like for Destiny 2 – let us know in the comments.
