Destiny 2 will soon revise the weapon balance. Why fusion rifles might be the focus of these changes and what the current problem is, you can read here.
This statement has the community speculating: On Twitter, a community manager (Dmg04) from Bungie shared a video and praised the work. The clip was about the analysis of fusion rifles.
Some users interpreted the mention of fusion rifles by a Bungie employee as a clear message: Fusion rifles might soon be in for a nerf.
Dmg04 then explained that the Destiny developers have been looking at feedback on fusion rifles for a while. By March, they plan to present insights into upcoming balance adjustments from various areas.
The Bungie employee never mentioned the word “nerf”. He also did not elaborate on future changes. However, this does not stop the community from speculating about the future of fusion rifles.

Could the era of fusion rifles be coming to an end?
Here’s the current status of fusion rifles: Characteristic of fusion rifles is that they fire powerful shots after a short charge time. In Destiny 2, fusion rifles are special weapons and are used in the energy slot, except for a few exceptions. A few power weapons are also classified as fusion rifles.
Especially in the Crucible, fusion rifles evoke mixed feelings. For many guardians, this futuristic weapon type is currently too powerful, and they see the PvP balance at risk.
For this very reason, many players choose fusion rifles. They want to feel powerful. However, in a survey, you voted two fusion rifles as the most annoying PvP weapons:
These 2 weapons divide the community: Upon closer inspection, it turns out that not all fusion rifles annoy Destiny players. The problem lies more with these outliers:
- Erentil FR4 – The legendary fusion rifle stands as a representative for all slowly reloading and hard-hitting examples. Especially with certain perks like “Firmly Planted” or “Backup Plan”, the weapon becomes overpowering and hardly counterable.
- Jötunn – The exotic fusion rifle fires a homing fireball. This takes out almost everything with a hit and is usually not seen coming.
The teased adjustments will require a lot of finesse from the developer. Because even back in the days of Destiny 1, fusion rifles were adjusted. At that time, the entire category practically disappeared from the scene.
It will be exciting to see how Bungie handles the issue and what adjustments we can expect in Season 10. “Will nails continue to stick out” or will they be hammered in? As always, it’s true that not every guardian can be satisfied.
What are your thoughts on fusion rifles in PvP? While we can currently only speculate about the future of fusion rifles, we already know much more about changes to another weapon type:
