A curious thing has emerged in Destiny 2. The exclusive weapon for PS4, Wave Splitter, can now be obtained by players on Xbox One and PC through Cross-Save, but they cannot use the weapon back on their platform. The console exclusivity is coming to an end soon, but it takes one last strange turn first.
What’s up with exclusive weapons? Since the launch of Destiny 1, there has been a deal between Activision Blizzard and Sony that concerned Destiny.
Players on PlayStation received certain items or activities exclusively: sometimes an exotic weapon, sometimes a strike. After a year, players on Xbox One could then partake in those activities or use the items.
The preferential treatment of PS4 players has caused years of gritting teeth and annoyed eye-rolling among the other Guardians – especially because the exotic weapons that were only available on PS4 were often really good, like the Hawkmoon, a cult weapon.
The current weapon that only PS4 players receive is the exotic Linear Fusion Rifle Wave Splitter. The exotic “excels in every way” and is excellent. The weapon came with Forsaken on PS4 in September 2018.
How to get the weapon through Cross-Save
This is how to get the weapon: Players on Xbox One and PC can theoretically switch to PS4 via the Cross-Save feature and claim their main account with Xur for the engram of fate to obtain an exotic that they are missing.
Ideally, this would be the Wave Splitter. However, they also need to own Forsaken on PS4, which is somewhat tedious.
This is the catch: As Gamespot reports, players can only use the Wave Splitter while they are on PS4. Once they return to their home platform, Wave Splitter can no longer be used.
Preferential treatment is coming to an end
When will it all come to an end? Bungie has announced that with the separation from Activision a new era of Destiny 2 begins. With October and Shadowkeep, there should be no preferential treatment for any platform.
It is expected that from October 1st, everyone will be able to get the Wave Splitter, regardless of the platform they play on.
