What rumors and theories say about Season 7 in Destiny 2
Apart from the scarce official details, there are still some rumors and theories about what fans might expect in Season 7.
However, please note that these are unconfirmed reports and presumed information. So you should treat these theories with caution.
New exotic weapons: According to statements from the well-known leaker AnonTheNine, at least three exotic weapons will likely strengthen the Guardians’ arsenal in Season 7:
- He hinted that the popular hand cannon “Hawkmoon” from Destiny 1 could return.
- Additionally, the hand cannon “Rose” is expected to be introduced in the Season of Opulence. This is essentially the hand cannon Thorn, before it and its bearer Rezyl Azzir (later Dredgen Yor) were corrupted by the Darkness.
- The exotic sword Dark Drinker from Destiny 1 is also rumored to return.
There is no guarantee that this leak is true as well. But consider that AnonTheNine has previously been correct with all his information regarding Forsaken, the Thunderlord or the return of “The Last Word” and “Thorn”. Therefore, he is highly regarded within the community.
New dungeon activities: Recently, Bungie announced in response to a fan’s inquiry that they are not done with dungeon-like activities such as the Shattered Throne. They are diligently working on more surprises for the Guardians.
While no specific date was mentioned, some Guardians believe that more such activities could be introduced in Season 7. On the official roadmap, there are still two secret contents about which nothing is known.
However, there is also expected to be a new 6-man activity with matchmaking that some Guardians believe could take up this format.
New Dragonslayer activity: According to AnonTheNine, a new pinnacle activity is coming in Season 7, currently codenamed “Dragonslayer”. There, you will have to escape from a kind of escape room by solving puzzles while being attacked by waves of enemies.
Anon has not revealed whether this is the new 6-man activity or one of the two previously secret features.
The story around Uldren continues: After we have already dealt with the murderer of Cayde-6 in Forsaken, he was resurrected in a new cutscene by a Ghost. Many now assume that the story surrounding the Awakened Prince could be continued in Season 7.
This theory is further strengthened by the recent tweets from the voice actor of Uldren – Brandon O’Neill. Recently, he made some posts that bring the brother of the Awakened Queen further into focus.
It seems to be going back to the Leviathan
What many fans are sure of: There will likely be a return to the ship of the Cabal Emperor Calus – the Leviathan.
Why do numerous fans assume this? In the currently released material regarding the Annual Pass content, there are several images showing a changed, dark Leviathan environment that we do not know in this form. Among them, there are also 6 Guardians moving through the rooms of this gigantic world devourer.
Additionally, Benedict 99-40, a Sweeper robot and also the NPC vendor for the Leviathan raid, decorates the motif for the Penumbra DLC from Season 7.
Leaker AnonTheNine also mentioned a return to the Leviathan, where the Guardians are supposed to explore the source of Calus’ power. It should also include a teaser of the Darkness enemies we are supposed to encounter in Destiny 3.
There are also some lore entries suggesting a possible return to the Leviathan.
This is what the lore says: In the entry “Passivity”, an agent discusses the situation around the Leviathan and the Cabal after the raid against their leader Val Ca’uor (Leviathan raid’s Shattered Throne).
There it is stated, among other things, that the Awakened fleet constantly shows presence at the Leviathan, yet the gigantic Cabal ship remains peaceful. Agents are constantly monitoring the traffic to and from the Leviathan, but there are no transports other than from Guardians.
This leads to the assumption that the Leviathan is a closed ecosystem or that there is some kind of internal Stargate system on board, which allows the Leviathan to be entered or exited unnoticed.
Due to all these factors, many fans now assume that we could be sent in Season 7 to get to the bottom of this phenomenon. As this is also suggested by the observing agent from the lore for the upcoming months.
You can learn more about this in this video from the well-known Destiny YouTuber Houndish (from 4:37):
What fans are still undecided about: Guardians are still undecided about the final form of the activity. Some believe that the dark Leviathan could be the “new” raid of Season 7 (as up to 6 Guardians are visible in the footage).
Others think it is possible that it could also be the new 6-man activity which is not a raid.
Still others can imagine that the Leviathan raid, including the two corresponding raid sectors Shattered Throne and World Eater, could be revamped and brought back in a new way – with updated gear (Random Rolls) and higher power levels. However, for now, it remains speculation.
What awaits the Guardians in Season 7
That’s why Season 7 is currently being controversially discussed: With Season 7 come not only new content. The sandbox is also being tinkered with again, which will affect all Guardians.
Bungie recently gave a small glimpse into the upcoming changes, and these (so far) are mainly characterized by nerfs to popular legendary and exotic weapons and exotic armor pieces.
This has now driven numerous fans to the barricades. In the community, Season 7 is already referred to as the Season of the Nerf or the “Go Slow” update.
Which weapons and gear will be weakened and further details can be found here:
- Destiny 2 swings the nerf hammer – These exotics will soon be weaker
- This is how Destiny 2 will soon nerf two of its best PvP weapons
- Players are fed up, calling the next update “Go Slow”
These changes are still to come:
- This is how Destiny 2 wants to offer the fairest World-First race of all time in the new raid of Season 7
- This is how Destiny 2 is overhauling its in-game shop Eververse for Season 7
What do you think? What can Guardians expect in Season 7? Which of the theories do you consider likely? Or is it all just hot air?
