Festival of the Lost – Halloween Event
What is the “Festival of the Lost” for an event? The “Festival of the Lost” is basically Halloween in Destiny 2, where guardians laugh in the face of death and wearing masks, push back the encroaching darkness.
- In the Tower, the meeting point of Destiny 2, atmospheric candles, pumpkins, and costumes ensure that everyone gets the right spooky vibe.
- On top of that, there is a lot of candy to earn that can be exchanged for spooky cosmetics and weapons during the festivities.
A highlight of the Halloween event is the annual vote between two armor designs by the community. The winning look chosen by the players will then be earnable at the “Festival of the Lost”.
For 2023, players were allowed to vote by class for the first time and had to choose between bugs and spiders. Hunters and Titans voted for the spider look, while Warlocks preferred the bug look.
- Each set previously cost either 6,000 glimmer or 1,500 silver.
Expect a few extra eyes, little wings, and bug-like protrusions, as you can see in this video:
When does the Festival of the Lost take place? The Halloween event usually takes place from October to November and lasts for 3 weeks. In 2023, it started on October 17.
How does the event work? Traditionally, players wear spooky (and silly!) masks and collect treats by mastering challenges in so-called “Haunted Sectors” throughout the system.
These sectors change from year to year, and Bungie decorates the selected sector locations to match the event, in order to maintain the atmosphere.
- Once players have unlocked access to “Haunted Sectors,” they can buy bounties, masks, and other Festival of the Lost rewards from Eva Levante.
- Masks and rewards can be purchased with candy earned by defeating enemies and completing activities while wearing a mask during the Festival of the Lost.
- The festival also brings new lore to the game with the “Book of Forgotten.” Players can unlock this by collecting “Spectral Pages” and crafting “Manifested Pages” or by earning them from chests in the “Haunted Sectors.”
- Since 2023, there is also a special memento to earn that cloaks your weapons in black leather.

What rewards are there at the Festival of the Lost?
That was the title of the Festival of the Lost: In 2023, players could secure the title “Ghost Hunter” during the Festival of the Lost. It can also be gilded, which, however, requires completing a few additional triumphs.
Additionally, various Halloween weapons are always available as rewards:
- The Void grenade launcher “Acosmic” with rapid-fire frame.
- The auto rifle “Creepy Story”.
- The pulse rifle “Primitive Green” in a stylish pink-yellow dino scale look.
- The sniper rifle “Gloom-Tech,” which has a really special anime sound.
What is Hocus-Focus? Since 2023, there is also the so-called “Hocus Focus” for which you need the new “Creepy Engrams”.
These have two uses in the game:
- You can open them individually to receive some event treats as usual.
- Or you use them as currency for the new “Hocus Focus.” This allows you to acquire exotic armors with four focus categories for 2500 candy, in addition to the focus on “Legendary Weapons.” Among them are armors that you may never have earned before.
The only condition is that players must own the corresponding expansion that the exotic armor is tied to, in order to obtain it during the “Hocus Focus.”
The Dawning – Winter Event
What is “The Dawning” for an event? “The Dawning” is the traditional Christmas event in Destiny 2. During this time, the Tower shines with a winter light, and players celebrate the spirit of giving in the winter season.
To enable players to give, Eva Levante lends them her holiday oven. In it, delicious cookies for the NPCs can be baked. In return, players receive frosty loot gifts back.
When does “The Dawning” take place? Bungie usually holds the Dawning event in December. It traditionally lasts for 3 weeks in the winter season. In 2023, the event ran from December 12, 2023, to January 2, 2024.
How does the event work? Guardians must gather materials and essences in the world of Destiny 2 by defeating enemies and completing various activities.
- It is necessary to collect ingredients and Dawning essences by performing specific actions. For example, there are flavorful aromas through multi-kills or strong flavors through sword kills.
- Once enough materials have been gathered, players can combine the acquired “ingredients” in Eva’s holiday oven to create delicious treats like Gjallarhorn cookies, Traveler curd balls, or bittersweet biscotti.
All recipes for the Dawning and the various ingredients can be found in this Dawning guide:
The oven can be upgraded to a masterpiece, which then consumes less Dawning essence. To do this, you need to bake all the recipes once. If you have already baked during the last celebrations, the oven will also remember all your recipes.
Tip: If you have the ship Starfarer 7M
, you can collect more since it gives you the chance to receive Dawning mood in ingredient drops.
What rewards are there at the Dawning event?
Players receive Dawning rewards by completing event card challenges, opening or focusing gifts. Sometimes NPCs also give gift boxes during cookie deliveries.
New Dawning memento: In 2023, Bungie created another event memento: the Dawning memento. To obtain it, you only need to complete Eva Levante’s “Winter Evening” quest. Additional mementos can then only be obtained by opening gifts called “A Favor” once the first memento has been received.
What are Mementos?
Mementos in Destiny 2 are unique shaders for crafted weapons. They can only be used for crafted weapons and these must also have achieved certain level milestones before the option to use a memento becomes available.
This is the title of the Dawning event: In December 2023, guardians could earn the title “Star Baker” by baking cookies. It can also be gilded, which, however, requires completing a few additional triumphs.
As weapon rewards, here are the Dawning weapons:
- The aggressive Arc glaive
Albedo Wings
. - The legendary Stasis pulse rifle “Stay Cool” with a fire rate of 450.
- A Stasis sword named “Zephyr”.
- “Glacioclasm” a Void fusion rifle.
- The machine gun “Avalanche” which somewhat resembles the Gambit weapon “21% Delirium”.
- A frosty kinetic 750 submachine gun “Cold Front” with an aggressive frame.
You can find the God rolls for these weapons here:
Who can play the seasonal events? All of these events are free and thus available to every player, regardless of whether they own the paid DLCs of Destiny 2 or not. You only need to have completed the first introductory mission in the Cosmodrome to join.
These were all currently active seasonal events in Destiny 2. They definitely offer a good free option to discover Destiny 2 and experience the Tower in a different way.
