In Destiny 2, there are several underground passages hiding beneath the surface of the open world that conceal secrets. Deep digging has been done both on Earth in the Cosmodrome and on the Moon. Parallel worlds have also been created that lead to unknown dimensions. Players can explore these secrets by starting what are known as Dungeons. We have summarized all currently playable Dungeons and their secrets for you.
What are Dungeons in Destiny 2? In Destiny 2, Dungeons are a type of small endgame activity for up to 3 players. They are fundamentally similar to a Raid, as they contain multiple end bosses as well as mechanics and puzzles. However, they are designed for 3 players instead of 6. Therefore, Dungeons are often referred to as Mini-endgame activities and usually offer an exotic weapon to hunt for.
Bungie committed to releasing more regular endgame content drops during the major reveal of “The Witch Queen,” and Dungeons are a key part of that.
In 2023, 2 new Dungeons were added to the 6 already known ones. They will come into play on a rotating basis with the Raids. This means that players in the Lightfall Seasons 21 and 23 have each seen brand new Dungeons added.
Who can play the Dungeons? Dungeons used to be included and a standard part of the expansion with which they were launched, meaning they were playable at no extra cost. However, Bungie has revised its offer model in this regard and eliminated the sale of Dungeons as an inclusive offer in October 2021.
- For players who purchased the exclusive Deluxe Edition of “Lightfall” along with the additional Season Passes for Year 6, the 2 new Dungeons are still included.
- However, those who bought the standard versions of “Lightfall” plus the additional Season Passes for Year 6 cannot play the new Dungeons. The two DLC Dungeons are therefore offered separately for interested players, which is more expensive compared to the complete package.
- Only the Prophecy Dungeon was a gift from Bungie to its players and can be played for free by anyone at any time.
How long does a Dungeon take? Normally, you should plan 1-2 hours for the initial exploration of a Dungeon. The duration of the activity always depends on your fireteam. A well-coordinated fireteam can of course be much faster, especially if the mechanics are already known.
Currently, you can play the following Dungeons in Destiny 2:
Dungeon “The Shattered Throne”
The Shattered Throne (eng. The Shattered Throne) is a Dungeon in Destiny 2, released on September 25, 2018, with the Forsaken expansion.
How to start the Dungeon: The Dungeon used to be hidden behind a secret portal in the Dreaming City and was only available every three weeks. This was the case whenever the curse had reached its maximum level. However, Bungie has changed this, so players can now select the Dungeon anytime directly through the Navigator in the Dreaming City.
This Exotic awaits you in the Dungeon: In the Dungeon “The Shattered Throne,” you can earn the exotic bow “Wishender”. This is possible through a quest.
The exotic bow provides the following benefits:
- Wrath of the Queen: When using the aiming device with a fully drawn bow, enemies behind walls are marked.
- High-Voltage String: Increases precision, slightly slower draw, reduces stability slightly.
- Anti-Possessed Feather: Specializes against possessed targets, increases precision.
- Broadhead: Penetrating arrow tip that damages the target on both entry and exit. A shot can penetrate multiple targets.
By the way: The egg-shaped possessed crystals found all over the Dreaming City can be eliminated with the Wishender. For that, you receive legendary loot.
What is the Dungeon about? You must enter Eleusinia, the Throne World of Queen Mara Sov, to fight your way past a horde of possessed enemies. The goal is to find the source of corruption that has taken over the Dreaming City since the revelations from the “Last Wish” Raid. Players will first enter the dark Throne World of Mara Sov, which offers some surprises.
There are 3 areas to master:
- Complete the symbol puzzle in Erebus.
- Fight your way past Vorgeth, the Endless Hunger.
- Find Dûl Incaru, Savathun’s daughter, and “the eternal return” in order to defeat her.

How to start the Dungeon: In order to start the Dungeon, you must first complete the quest “Big Trouble” with Eris Morn on the Moon. Once that is done, you can start the “Pit of Heresy” directly through the Navigator on the Moon.
This Exotic awaits you in the Dungeon: The Pit holds the exotic machine gun “Xenophage” for you. To get the exotic MG from Shadowkeep, you must complete the quest “The Journey” (eng. The Journey).
The exotic machine gun provides the following benefits:
- Pyrotoxin Rounds – fires powerful explosive ammunition.
- Messanger – increases the already high range when aiming (71/100).
- Large Caliber Rounds – shots push enemies back further.
What is the Dungeon about? Deep beneath the Harbor of Sorrow, the Hive hides its darkest secrets. Follow the path and defeat the “Forever Trapped”. The remaining Daughters of Crota gave birth to him and sealed him deep beneath the Moon.
