Destiny 2 offers numerous weapons and weapon categories. Guardians have a wide range of killing instruments available to them. However, since the official reveal of the Forsaken expansion, it is clear: finally, a truly new weapon is coming into play – the bow.
Many guardians were quite astonished when they watched the reveal video for Destiny 2: Forsaken. Among the numerous new information and upcoming features of the autumn addon, one prominent detail caught the guardians’ eyes immediately: Destiny 2 will receive a brand new weapon category – the bow. What is currently known about this weapon?
New toy for the guardians – The bow
It’s official – the bow will not only be reserved for the Revenant Hunters with their Super in the future. With the Forsaken expansion, bows will enter Destiny 2 as a new weapon category.
Why a bow? The developers at Bungie have asked themselves this question. Why, for heaven’s sake, should one resort to a bow in a sci-fi game with automatic firearms and energy weapons? The answer was quite simple: because they are absolutely deadly and cool.
The moving images tell a clear story. Although no concrete details have been revealed yet, it can be seen in the reveal video how a player takes out another guardian with just one arrow (body shot). A Fallen is also eliminated with just one shot into the virtual afterlife.
Three different types: As the developers explained in the ViDocs, there will be three different types of bows in the future. The categories will be defined by the range of the respective bows. There will be versions for long, medium, and short ranges.
It is not yet known if the bows can be carried in all three weapon slots. However, based on the visuals, it seems that there will be elemental arrows (an arrow with Arc glimmer is visible) as well as kinetic arrows (without glimmer). For a brief moment, a legendary bow with Solar damage is also seen. This at least suggests that there will be various slot options for the bows as well.
What can the bows do? The video clearly shows that the bows can kill not only through direct arrow hits. An arrow is fired that strikes next to a Fallen, but kills it with an Arc bolt from the arrow stuck beside it. Whether this is a type of arrow or ammunition, or possibly an (exotic) perk of the bow itself, remains unclear.
Furthermore, there is an image showing the stats of a legendary version of this new weapon. Two of the stats are particularly interesting. The magazine size is stated as 64. So, one will be able to carry quite a bit of ammunition. Additionally, there is the stat Draw Time – the time it takes to draw the bow. Due to this stat, many fans assume that the bow will have a similar “charge time” as fusion rifles – meaning it will not fire immediately upon pressing the trigger.
Stealth play? This is pure speculation, but some guardians are now hoping that the bows will promote stealth gameplay. Numerous fans would be pleased if enemies could be eliminated in a way that nearby opponents are not alerted by the silent kill.
However, from the gameplay shown so far, there are no details that would indicate such a mechanic. Whether it will remain a mere wishful thinking from the fans should hopefully be known by September 4, 2018. Then Destiny 2: Forsaken will be released.
