These hand cannons have already returned to Destiny 2: After the personal sidearm of Cayde-6, the Pikass, celebrated the return of the beloved hand cannon “The Last Word” with the weekly reset on January 29 just a few days ago.
Additionally, Bungie has essentially confirmed with a trailer for The Last Word that another iconic hand cannon will be returning soon – the Thorn.
However, there is also a supposed hint at another potential returnee: the exotic hand cannon Hawkmoon. What’s the deal?
What’s behind the possible return of Hawkmoon? A nearly forgotten alleged leak from last year has been brought up again by well-known Destiny YouTuber Houndish in Destiny 2.
It’s about a small info snippet that should interest many hand cannon fans and Destiny veterans.
Specifically, it concerns a sentence from the well-known leaker AnonTheNine, which was mentioned last year. The statement occurred in a conversation on Reddit when a user asked if there were any news about the new potential exotic “Rose” (the Thorn before it was corrupted) that could be introduced in the future. He had read about it on Reddit some time ago.
In response, AnonTheNine said that it was his information and that this weapon was supposed to come with the Penumbra DLC – just like another bird that we all love.
The reference to the bird is interpreted by many fans in this context as a clear hint towards Hawkmoon.
That’s why fans find the return likely: The return of Thunderlord, Thorn, and “The Last Word” – all of this and many other details about Forsaken and other aspects of Destiny 2 have been predicted long in advance by the Redditor AnonTheNine.
All of his leaks have proven true and absolutely reliable in hindsight, which is why he enjoys great respect within the community. However, the potential leak of Hawkmoon seems to have simply been overlooked amidst the mass of information that AnonTheNine had revealed.
If AnonTheNine actually meant Hawkmoon with the bird, the chances are quite good that this fan favorite could return to Destiny 2 in summer 2019.
How likely is the return of Hawkmoon? Although the separation from Activision could influence future content flow, Bungie has already assured that they will deliver the already communicated content on schedule – including the Penumbra DLC.
Moreover, the statement was made before the “divorce” between Bungie and Activision, so a possible return of Hawkmoon must have already been decided if the leak is correct.
Keep in mind that Anon has always been right with all his statements so far, but that’s no guarantee that it will always be so. You should take this unofficial info with a corresponding grain of caution, even if a return seems possible and even likely for many against the backdrop of previous information.
What makes Hawkmoon special: It is a kinetic hand cannon from Destiny 1 that was long exclusive to PS4 players. The iconic Hawkmoon was one of the most popular weapons in the Crucible during the first year of Destiny 1 and dominated PvP alongside several other sidearms.
It had good stats, but its perks Roulette and Double-Hand made it particularly popular.
This meant that a random shot in the magazine dealt significantly more damage, while two other random projectiles also caused increased damage. It was sometimes possible to eliminate other Guardians with just two or even one shot if both perks were activated at the same time.
In the second year, Hawkmoon was nerfed significantly in Destiny. After that, it was still playable, but no longer one of the top choices in PvP.
