In the online shooter Destiny 2 there has been a lot of commotion lately about a sudden change in course: Bungie wanted to bring 6 of the promised 12 new weapons into the game only over the course of 6 weeks. The last one would have been released only a week before the expansion “The Final Shape”. Now Bungie is officially rowing back and offering players a compromise.
This was the fight: It is about the new free update “Into the Light”, which Bungie is currently presenting in three streams. The free expansion is meant to entertain players until the long-awaited The Final Shape comes out in early June. This was postponed and Destiny 2 is now suffering from content drought.
We reported on the last stream on Tuesday evening, March 26:
- 12 iconic weapons are supposed to return to Destiny 2
- We have listed the weapons for you, they are items like “Luna’s Howl” or “The Summit”, all well-known weapons. The items come in a normal and a limited version with shader: When “The Final Shape” comes out, the limited versions will no longer be available.
- These 12 weapons were thought to be available with the release of the expansion on April 9. Then players would have about 2 months to farm all the limited weapons.
Bungie packs 6 weapons behind a time lock afterward
This was the change: As Bungie announced after the stream, the plan was different:
- 6 weapons were supposed to arrive directly on April 9
- The other 6 weapons were “time-gated”, meant to be released one after another, so that all 12 would not be in the game until 6 weeks later, on May 21.
Players fear: Only one week time – and are annoyed
This was the criticism: This change did not go well at all, Bungie was accused of being “cowardly” and not announcing in the stream that 6 weapons were time-gated, but only afterwards.
Players did not want things to drag on forever, but wanted the weapons as quickly as possible. Because if the last weapon comes into the game only on May 21, there is extremely little time to obtain it.
And what if one has important real-life commitments then? Having to dry the poodle, dig the garden, or do the tax declaration that week?
The problem: “The Final Shape” is released on June 4 and then the limited editions of the weapons will no longer be available.
Bungie goes for a compromise
This is Bungie’s reaction now: Bungie has now relented and will bring the first six weapons again on April 9. However, for the remaining 6 weapons, they will not take six weeks, but only three.
All 12 weapons should be in the game by April 30. That is at least a compromise.
Bungie also assures that the weapons can be “guaranteed and quickly obtained”, even if there is not much time.
However, those who want to get the Godroll should plan some time.
Which weapons will appear right at the beginning? The 6 weapons that players can expect are the following (via dotesports). We are adding the German names separately to avoid nasty comments about Good Friday:

- Succession – Succession
- Edge Transit – Edge Transit
- Falling Guillotine – Falling Guillotine

That was the plan before Bungie shifted gears. Currently, we at MeinMMO assume that it will stay that way.
How is this being discussed? On Twitter, this is described as a “win” and as a “fair compromise.”
