In Destiny 2, players have been complaining about the token system since 2017. In Season 13, the way you rank up and what rewards are available will change.
Here’s how you’ll earn glory soon: Destiny 2 fundamentally changes how you rank up with NPCs like Lord Shaxx. Instead of shoving tokens down the throats of activity vendors, you will level up automatically – you will gain reputation just for playing the respective activity.
Bungie is changing how rewards work with NPCs.
- You will find a kind of mini-season pass with the vendors.
- When you reach certain ranks, specific rewards will await you (these are supposed to change every season).
- Once you have reached the maximum rank with an NPC, you can reset the rank – similar to now, for example, with 2,000 valor points in the Crucible.
- After the first reset, different rewards will await you.
- The rewards for reaching certain valor points (or infamy) still exist. However, you will now collect them from the respective vendor – they no longer clog up the entire screen for 10 seconds.
These rewards are available in Season 13: For your rank increases, you will be rewarded with rare materials and a few cosmetics.
- Rank 4: 3x Upgrade Modules
- Rank 7: 3x Enhancement Cores
- Rank 10: seasonal ritual shader (3x enhancement cores after the first rank reset)
- Rank 13: 2x Enhancement Prisms
- Rank 16: seasonal ritual emblem (2x enhancement prisms after the first rank reset)
- For a reset: Ascendant Shard (Exotic Engram after the first reset)
Additionally, a legendary engram awaits per rank-up, and among the rewards of the mini-season pass, there will also be a highly sought-after Primus Engram.
When Season 13 starts in February 2021, the new rank system with Shaxx (Crucible) and the Drifter (Gambit) will be active. The transition with Zavala (Strikes) will occur in a later season.
“Spend your tokens”
What happens to the old tokens? Players have accumulated various tokens by the thousands. However, there is no longer a place for the unloved marks in the new rank-up system.
You have until the end of Season 12 to empty your pockets and vaults. Bungie specifically mentions the Crucible tokens, which will disappear into thin air on February 9.
Most players are unlikely to mourn the tokens. The reputation items have been a thorn in the side of Guardians since 2017. The statement “2 tokens and a blue” has even become a meme, essentially synonymous with bad loot.
For some guardians, turning in the tokens accumulated over the years may take quite a while – not to mention the time needed to dismantle the mostly useless gear…
Readers on MeinMMO also worry about their time:
By the next season, I won’t have any time left to play PvP. Since Bungie is eliminating the tokens next season and they will become worthless, I have to turn in all the tokens I’ve accumulated now. It’s going to take a while.

How many tokens have you accumulated and will you actually turn them all in? Or did you enjoy the system because it allowed you to save and then invest in loot later? Let us know in the comments.
