In Destiny 2 the submachine gun “The Immortal” is very popular. It came into the Trials with Season 20 and immediately caused a stir, especially in combination with a certain perk. However, this will be nerfed – as will some other content in the game.
What is changing? Bungie announced a mid-season patch in a blog post. In this, they plan to tackle some weapons that are too strong or too weak. A prominent target is “The Immortal”:
- It debuted in early 2023 and already caused almost 10 million kills on the first Trials weekend in Season 20, accounting for 9.5% of all kills.
- It is particularly strong in PvP and in combination with the perk “Aim Assist”. This grants you a damage bonus of 17% if you hit the same target consecutively for a few seconds. The damage increases to 40% with a continuous rate of fire. The bonus is strong and especially very simple to activate.
- If combined with perks like “Ricochet” and “Scout” for more range, almost nothing can stop you.
But that will be over in the future, as the perk will be weakened in PvP. The maximum damage bonus will be reduced from 40% to 25%. The PvE version will remain untouched.
In addition to “Aim Assist”, there are also nerfs for pulse rifles, including the Graviton Lance, and light buffs for bows and shotguns.

Buff for 2 Perks and 2 Weapon Types
How strong was the combo really? Mercules, one of the weapon designers for Destiny 2, explains the current situation in the blog post and shows a graphic. This shows the “Kills Over Expected” for PvP. On the X-axis, you see the usage time in percentage, while on the Y-axis, the performance is displayed. This should ideally be at 0% to achieve “expected performance.”
“The Immortal” and also the Graviton Lance slightly exceed the value, but are used disproportionately much. That is why nerfs are coming.
Which perks will be changed? Two perks will receive a buff:
- Directly to the gut: The penalty for auto-aiming has been reduced by 37.5 percent.
- Fireteam: The penalty for auto-aiming has been reduced by 33 percent.
Which weapons will be changed?
- Light Bows
- The starting distance for the specified damage reduction has been increased from 15 m to 25 m.
- The ending distance for the specified damage reduction has been increased from 20 m to 45 m.
- Increase of final accuracy by ~10 %.
- Submachine Guns
- Improvements have been made to the dynamic reticle of the targeting system of Shayura’s Wrath.
- Light Shotguns
- Reduction of the spread angle of the outer horizontal pellets by 15 %.
- Graviton Lance
- PvE damage has been increased by 67 %.
- The additional aim assist from the catalyst has been removed.
- The damage caused by the Cosmology explosion against players has been reduced by 40 %.
- No Time to Explain
- The range stat has been reduced by 10.
- Lion’s Roar
- A problem has been fixed where the Chimera perk on the catalyst did not apply the buffs to kinetic and power-slot weapons.
What happens after the update? Further changes are planned for Season 22. The focus will mainly be on zoom, which is to be completely redesigned. Additionally, the maximum achievable damage is to be reduced for almost all weapon types. However, it has not yet been revealed what the specific changes will be.
When will the mid-season patch be released? There is currently no official date. We are currently in week 6 of the season. Since the new season 22 is set to start on August 22, the mid-season patch should not take much longer to arrive.
