The upcoming Season 12 apparently closes a significant story gap in Destiny 2 and brings back one of our worst enemies, the murderer of Cayde-6, as an ally. Finally, we will learn what happens to the Awoken Prince Uldren Sov.
Warning, spoilers ahead! Read at your own risk!
This was surprising: Soon, the new Autumn expansion Beyond Light and the new Season 12 will launch for Destiny 2. In a new roadmap, Bungie has now presented the contents of Beyond Light, especially from the Season of the Hunt.
Alongside, there was also a developer ViDoc that provided deeper insights into the upcoming content. And there was also an exciting surprise. A former battle companion and now arch-enemy of the Guardians, whose whereabouts have been speculated about for some time, will return as a new and apparently important ally – the Awoken Prince Uldren Sov.
Prince Uldren returns in Season 12 – What we know so far
Summary of Uldren’s story up to Season 12: For the first time, Guardians encountered the enigmatic Prince in Destiny 1. Reluctantly, he assisted players in their search for the Black Garden. Later, however, with his sister, the Awoken Queen Mara Sov, he helped the Guardians in their fight against Oryx’s fleet, the Taken King.
At the time, it was believed that the Prince might have perished in the process, but he survived and became one of the worst enemies of the Guardians in the Forsaken expansion for Destiny 2. He was responsible for the death of the cult character Cayde-6, the Commander of the Hunter Vanguard.
As Guardians, players hunted him and his followers, the 8 Barons. In the end, players got their revenge, and Uldren died. It is unclear, however, whether it was by the player’s hand or by Petra Venj, another central figure in Forsaken.
However, there was an exciting turn of events. A cutscene showed Uldren being revived by a Ghost and apparently waking up without any memory of his old life and actions.
Since then, there has been speculation about his further role in Destiny 2. Lore entries suggest that he has been staying near the Last City, always wearing a helmet and generally avoiding others. And now his story apparently continues at last.
Everything known so far about Uldren’s return: What will please many players: In Season 12, Uldren’s story will be revisited, the Awoken Prince and Master of Crows will return – apparently as a Guardian with his own Ghost. This much is already clear after the ViDoc.
His return is likely intertwined with the seasonal story of Season 12. Other powers are now using the Darkness and are mobilizing. Not only the Fallen – also the Hive. This includes Xivu Arath, a sister of Oryx. She seizes this opportunity to build a Hive army. And as players, we will work with the Warlock Osiris to stop them.
He will then nearly be crushed by a Hive Knight during his investigations, but then there is an exciting twist. This time, you are not the noble savior. Uldren suddenly appears and saves Osiris’s life while your Guardian only watches.
Bungie provides clarity on some key points:
- Uldren now calls himself “The Crow”
- He truly does not know what he has done
- His revival was indeed a new beginning for him
- He is now truly a Guardian
- No, he will not train new Guardians. He is not Shaw Hun.
This adds to the tension of this whole development. We and everyone else still remember very well what he did and what he is capable of. So he is initially met with skepticism, and much is questioned – including how we see ourselves, the Light, and the Darkness.
You can watch the scene from minute 10:43 here:
What happens next? In Season 12, we, the Guardians, will work with Uldren and Osiris to take out new Hive constructs. With these, Xivu Arath is essentially assembling her own corrupted army. However, this may happen with some delay. Because the seasonal mission in which Uldren’s return is expected will start, according to the roadmap, only on November 17 – a week after the launch of Beyond Light.
But one way or another – it looks like Uldren or The Crow will become a central “new” figure in the ongoing story of Destiny 2. The character has great potential with his background, and it remains exciting to see how Bungie manages to close one of the most intriguing story gaps of Destiny 2.
By the way, we might still be in for some further surprises: Latest leak promises in Destiny 2 that you can return to the old Tower
