In Destiny 2, a mysterious distress signal from Beyond Light is causing sleepless nights for the master detectives of the community. Bungie must intervene and put an end to the fun.
It awakened the players: In a week, Beyond Light is launching, and Bungie wants to let all Guardians know. On the evening of November 2nd, a message from the official Twitter account of Destiny 2 caused a stir.
- The tweet stated with large warnings “Alert!” and “Distress call received.”
- It included a short clip showing a radio or transmitter in front of an icy hut at the DLC location Europa.
- The device then plays a hard-to-understand, distorted message for 30 seconds.

Immediately, the speculation began: Destiny has a very active community that loves to investigate every little detail. No wonder, Bungie continuously surprises the Guardians with puzzles and secrets. Some of these puzzles are even solved years later.
Thus, the question arose: What is the significance of the cryptic distress signal, what secrets from Beyond Light are hidden here? This question was particularly taken up by the community of Raidsecrets – a Destiny subreddit where basically the Sherlock Holmes of the Guardians reside.
Within a few hours, the corresponding thread (via reddit) was heating up:
- The audio file was played forwards and backwards.
- The users filtered out the background noise.
- We can see the audio file as a spectrogram, that is, a visual representation of the frequency spectrum.
- The clip was examined for Morse codes, potential speakers, and languages.
In short: The Guardians were speculating at full speed and pulling out all the stops.
The distress signal can only be deciphered in Beyond Light
This is how Bungie pulls the emergency brake: How exactly the players analyzed the tweet did not go unnoticed by Destiny developer Bungie. Community Manager Dylan “dmg04” Gaffner then stepped in at around 3 AM.
On Twitter he stated: “There is no riddle here,” he continued that we will get more answers in Beyond Light: “We will let you answer these questions when you are on your way to Europa on November 10th.”
We already know that at the launch of the DLC, Variks will summon us in-game with a distress signal to the new location.

This is how the detectives react: The creator of the reddit thread, TheRedMentalist, on Raidsecrets thanks his fellow detectives: “We all tried to find something that wasn’t there. The determination to seek the unknown is incredible in this community.” He further announced that he would not be discouraged and would later turn over every stone in Europa.
After all, the time for the new raid in Beyond Light is also starting soon. On November 21st, the Guardians will first enter the legendary Deep Stone Crypt. No matter what puzzles await there, the Destiny community will crack them, for sure.
