Destiny 2 has a sort of doomsday clock since last week. It just received its first update, and it seems that the great danger is coming faster than previously assumed. When could we finally face the Darkness?
What is the deal with the doomsday timer? In the Seraph Bunkers from Season 10 there is a map showing our solar system with most planets and some of their moons. There are also structures visible that many believe to be the mysterious pyramid ships of the Darkness.
The Darkness is, by the way, the oldest enemy of the Guardians and probably the greatest threat to the world of Destiny.
This map provides information on where and how many Darkness ships are located in relation to Earth and the other planets.
The map acts as a sort of timer for when the Darkness arrives. Many speculate about autumn as a time for a possible arrival. The theory goes that the Darkness could be introduced as a new main enemy with a major new expansion, pushing the Guardians to the brink of doom.
This is new: Apparently, there is a weekly update for the map, in which the position of the triangle ships is brought up to date. After the recent weekly reset, observant Guardians quickly noticed that something had changed.
The Darkness ships have now made a significant leap and have approached our solar system faster within 7 days than many had suspected last week. The number of pyramid ships tracked by Rasputin has also apparently increased. Before the reset, there were 2, and now there are 8.
This development means for Destiny 2: Some fans and the site Forbes have conducted calculations based on the recent developments and found the following:
- It was assumed that the ships would approach by 1 pixel per week. However, it has now been 10 to 11. It seems to be happening much faster than some had previously assumed.
- If this pace continues, the ships will reach the orbit of Saturn and thus also Titan – a playable world in Destiny 2 – within 10 weeks at the latest. (By the way, during the Golden Age, the Darkness first attacked Titan)
- The arrival of the Darkness on Titan could then take place on June 23 – so already at the beginning of the 2nd week of the upcoming Season 11 (The current Season 10 ends on June 16).
- This means we might meet the arch-enemy of the Guardians much earlier than many had thought.
While a lot can still happen in this time, should it indeed proceed according to this pattern, it means shortly:
It now looks like the Guardians will soon face a massive force of Darkness – possibly even before autumn (and hopefully in the context of cool new content). It’s time again to really worry about the fate of humanity, the Traveler, and the Guardians.
By the way, recently there was a leak that sees the Darkness in a new autumn expansion: Destiny 2: Leak about the new expansion has surfaced – Is this how year 4 will continue? However, this is doubted by numerous players.
This supports an imminent encounter with the Darkness: Officially, not much is really known about Season 11 yet. But Bungie already shared a while ago that it is supposed to be something very special. Something is awaiting us that is “different from anything we have seen in Destiny“.
Many fans also feel that the arrival of the Darkness has been noticeably prepared for recently. And the developers have already pointed out that the story surrounding the mysterious pyramid ships is far from over.
It seems quite fitting to some Guardians that they will soon finally meet the greatest enemy of the Guardians, who has only acted in the background for nearly 6 years and only truly stepped out of the shadows with the Shadowkeep expansion.
