With Destiny 2, the Forsaken expansion is approaching. Here are tips and hints on how you can prepare for Year 2 now.
On September 4th, new adventures await the Guardians. Then the Forsaken expansion, the major Year 2 expansion of Destiny 2, will be released, presenting you with new dangers, new loot, and new activities.
However, Year 1 will end just a week earlier, on August 28th. On this day, the Update 2.0.0 will be launched, which introduces the new weapon slot system, mass deletion of shaders, and further innovations.
You only have one or two weeks left to prepare for Year 2. Here are some tips and hints you should consider now.
Determine the elemental damage of your Year 1 weapons now
Until August 28th, you can freely change the elemental damage (Arc, Solar, Void) of your legendary weapons using mods.
So, decide on a damage type for the respective weapons now, as this mod slot will disappear after August 28th. Year 2 introduces a new mod system.
In Year 2, your Year 1 weapons will retain the elemental damage that you determined before August 28th. After that, the damage type cannot be changed.
There are a few exceptions. The Ikelos sniper and shotgun will be fixed to Solar. And the following legendary weapons will become kinetic weapons – thus losing their elemental damage:
- Baligant
- Refuge of the Shepherd
- Hawthorne’s field-forged shotgun
- Solstice God
- Perfect Paradox
- The cool jackal
- Silicon Neurom
So, take care of your elemental weapons in time before it’s too late.
Clear up the post office
On August 28th, the new weapon slot system will be introduced. This may cause some weapons from your inventory to be sent to the post office.
Watch out for an empty post office: Bungie states that you should ensure that your post office is empty on August 28th. Otherwise, items may be lost. If the post office is full, all items that should have been sent to the post office will be lost.
Stockpile weapon master materials
By dismantling gear, you obtain weapon master materials. These can be exchanged with the weapon master for random rewards.
So, collect weapon master materials now and wait until Year 2 to redeem them. In Year 2, weapons will have random perks, making weapon master materials much more useful. With a bit of luck, you can quickly obtain highly rolled weapons.
As the weapon master gains importance, the cost for a weapon master reward will increase from 40 to 100 weapon master materials.
Collect target materials diligently
Target materials will become important: While the tokens will take a backseat in Forsaken, target materials, such as dusk fragments, will come to the forefront. These materials will be the new main source for reputation in their respective worlds.
Additionally, target materials will be required as additional materials to infuse weapons and armor pieces in Forsaken. This brings the importance of target materials closer to what it was in Destiny 1 when materials were needed to upgrade weapons.
This means you should farm target materials diligently now and not redeem them at the vendors. Collect them, as you will need them for infusion.
What about target tokens? It’s also worth collecting the tokens and redeeming them only in Year 2. This will still yield reputation and thus fresh Year 2 rewards.
Save your Vanguard tokens and Crucible tokens
If you have already reached Vanguard rank 50 with Zavala in Season 3, there’s hardly any point in Vanguard tokens.
Nevertheless, it’s worth stockpiling Vanguard tokens now. Because in Season 4, you can redeem the tokens from Season 3 for reputation. They do not lose their value.
Starting Year 2 with some Vanguard tokens, you’ll quickly climb the reputation with Zavala and receive his new, tasty rewards. On top of that, there will be weapons with random rolls.
The Crucible tokens: These tokens from Season 3 can still be redeemed in Season 4. Therefore, it’s worth holding onto them.
You can grind Exotics, Catalysts, and Masterwork Cores
Exotics in Year 2: In Forsaken, you’ll be on the hunt for new legendary items with random rolls and bonus perks. There are no major changes to the Exotics.
If you’re still missing Exotics, you can safely hunt for them now and improve them with Catalysts. The current Exotics will remain relevant in Year 2.
Collect Masterwork Cores: To upgrade legendary weapons in Year 2, you’ll need numerous Masterwork Cores due to the new Masterwork system. There will be 10 Masterwork levels, with each upgrade costing Masterwork Cores, Glimmer, and Legendary Shards.
So, it’s worth saving Masterwork Cores now.
