The Icebreaker was one of the most iconic weapons in Destiny. It is a unique sniper with an extravagant look that could regenerate ammunition by itself and cause enemies to explode – thus offering outstanding advantages in both PvE and PvP.
Especially in the Nightfall strikes and raids, it was top-tier and considered the best weapon for PvE. You could hide at a safe distance from the enemy and snipe everything away. Solo runs became significantly easier. The Icebreaker represented the zeitgeist of Destiny.
With “The Dawning,” it returned in Year 3 and immediately returned to being one of the most sought-after and best weapons. In PvE it is top-tier, but has tough exotic competition. Given the special ammo nerf in February 2017, it currently holds a really good position in PvP.
At this point, the Black Hammer must also be mentioned as an important sniper rifle from Year 1 – a weapon that was left behind in Year 2 and replaced by the Black Spindle. Therefore, the Hammer will not return. Unlike the Icebreaker, the Black Hammer was legendary (not exotic). It also provided outstanding advantages for PvE, as the magazine was refilled from nowhere if you landed three quick precision hits. The terror of many PvE bosses!
