Shotguns have always been difficult to balance for Bungie. In the months before update 2.5.0.2, for example, the Matador 64 dominated the special slot in PvP. If we turn back the clock even further – back to Year 1 – there is a shotgun that was even “crazier”: Felwinter’s Lie. Even today, some players refer to this weapon as a “joke.”
The shotgun was characterized by maximum impact and maximum range and could be obtained with the incredibly powerful perk “Shot Package” – a perk that was later completely removed from the game.
The “lie” of Felwinter was that it was actually a sniper rifle and not a shotgun. Guardians were looking for perks that increased range and “sniped” across the entire map. Those who owned such a weapon had a fun time. All others will remember pure, unrestrained rage when hearing the term “Felwinter’s Lie.”
