Admittedly, number 1 is not surprising: The Gjallarhorn was the weapon that everyone wanted in Year 1 and that shaped the game more than any other weapon. For the Gjallarhorn was the solution to all the problems that arose in Year 1 of Destiny. Plus, it had a unique look.
The “Year 1” Gjallarhorn was a homing rocket launcher with high projectile speed, dealing incredible damage. The reason for this was the OP perk Pack Hunter: Upon detonation, the projectile split into homing cluster rockets that dealt significant damage to surrounding enemies. Strategy was unnecessary. The Titan simply deployed his bubble and everyone shot the Gjallarhorn at the boss. The fight was over.
A weapon that every Guardian wanted to own – and had to, if they wanted to play. Because on social networks, a Gjallarhorn was often the prerequisite to being invited into a fireteam.
In short: Year 1 was all about this rocket launcher. The entire community was in Gjallarhorn fever. On 14.8.2015, Xur finally brought the Gjallarhorn (for the second time). This day was later celebrated as the “Gjallarhorn Day” a year later. No other weapon in Destiny has a “birthday” like that.
Who knows what Destiny 2 will bring. Perhaps we will see some weapons from Destiny 1 again. Bungie is known for bringing back old things with a new coat of paint.
But if we are to believe Cayde-6, we can look forward to tons of new loot in Destiny 2 that should help us get over the loss of the old weapons. Then comes the time when new memories and new legends will be forged.
Now it’s your turn: Because a top-ten list is far too short to showcase all the important weapons from Destiny 1. I personally like to think back to my “Crota’s Word” or a Vision, a Confluence, an Iron Scepter, a Necrochasm, a Malicious Touch, a Malok’s Grip or a Breaker-Primus. I will never forget my “Empty Stare” arsenal – just as little as the conflict over whether the Palindrome or Eyasluna is the better hand cannon. Therefore: Which weapons will always remain in your memory?
