Destiny 2 is coming. The time to say goodbye to our favorite weapons is drawing nearer.
The Guardians are facing tough times: The inventory from Destiny 1 will not carry over to Destiny 2. All the weapons and armor pieces that you have used for days, weeks, months, and years in the MMO shooter must be left behind when the new era begins. Many Guardians’ hearts are already breaking over this.
The culprit of this “crime” is, by the way, Ghaul (or Gary), who will destroy all your gear at the start of Destiny 2 by attacking the Last City and the Tower with his Cabal Legion. This is how it is explained in the story – the real reason is that we have to start fresh with Destiny 2: Because it’s a new game that is supposed to have a “restart.” One wants to break free from the baggage of the past.
This, of course, has its positives: Destiny 2 will (presumably) not only feel like another expansion but like an exciting new game. Additionally, Bungie has the opportunity to leave behind ongoing balance issues from the game.
Nevertheless, many Guardians will step into the future while looking back at the past in Destiny 1 with a tear in their eye. We present 10 weapons that defined Destiny 1 and that many Guardians will surely think back on often.
The Stranger’s Rifle
The Stranger’s Rifle is a pulse rifle that will likely remain forever in the memories of the “Year 1” players for two reasons:
- The Stranger’s Rifle was an excellent weapon in the Crucible that was always to be reckoned with. Since this pulse rifle was available at the end of the story, nearly everyone had it. By the way, this weapon was neither exotic nor legendary, but rare (blue)!
- This weapon was directly related to one of the biggest flaws of Destiny 1: The poor and disjointed story. The notorious line of the Stranger is still ringing in many ears: “I don’t have time to explain why I don’t have time to explain.” This character was then given the Stranger’s Rifle at the end of the story.
In Year 2, the Stranger’s Rifle made an appearance as the exotic pulse rifle “No Time to Explain.” This can be obtained through an extensive quest line surrounding the Paradox mission and the Glass Vault and has similar stats and perks to the original weapon.
The Stranger’s Rifle is a reminder of the early days of Destiny for many – and how much the MMO shooter has evolved since September 2014. Perhaps we will see the strange Exo in Destiny 2 again…
