6. New PvE Activities in Season 20
While the Guardians float through Neomuna to search for lost technology and understand their new powers, they can also face new PvE activities in Season 20 of Lightfall.
- Terminal Overload
- This is the activity of Season 20, where the goal is to stop the Shadow Legion and Vex from their all-out assault on the city of Neomuna. It’s a new public activity on Neptune.
- New Raid in Season 20
- Season 20 will also see the launch of the brand new Lightfall raid. Its description reads: “Transported from an unknown time and place, an intrusive presence has been detected. We must now confront the ancient threat that is growing at our doorstep.”
- What else is new to do?
- Additionally, there will be one or more strikes in Neomuna as well as a Public Event. Furthermore, Guardians can once again run patrols across the entire Neomuna area.
- Some updated in-game events might also be added.
7. New Rank and Commendation Systems
Have you always wanted to say thank you to nice Guardians before they disappear forever into the jungle of LFG? From Lightfall onwards, you can.
- The new commendation system allows Guardians to express their gratitude towards one another and celebrate the positive emotions of completing an activity.
- It will also be possible to commend Guardians for their performance, for instance after a raid.
- The so-called “Guardian Ranks” are a progression system that helps integrate new lights more smoothly into the game and offers goals and challenges for both new and experienced players. You can complete challenges in it and rise in ranks.
Players who have been playing Destiny 2 for a while will start directly at rank 6, allowing them to use all mods immediately at the start of the DLC. New players will need to earn this unlocking first.
8. Own Ingame Loadout System
Being able to save your new builds has not been possible in Destiny 2 for a long time. Only third-party services like the Destiny Item Manager made this possible for grateful Guardians. However, in Year 6, Bungie will also directly offer this option in the game.
- The loadouts system allows Guardians to spontaneously prepare for any challenges that await them.
- Up to 10 slots are available to save multiple loadouts and they can also be assigned relevant symbols.
- Since the system is based on a single screen, players can more easily share their builds with teammates and the community.
- On top of that, the “Mod Manager” facilitates the management of mods and also displays their effects.
Will the new system also save shaders and ornaments? Yes. The transmog system will not only continue to exist in Destiny 2 but will also work fully with the new loadout system. Bungie has confirmed that you can save your armor ornaments and shaders within your builds.
9. Changes in Season 20
First of all, the new Season 20 will bring a fresh season pass, with new items, lots of armors, and materials. In addition, Guardians will be able to level up to 200 Power levels starting from Season 20.
- In Season 20 of Lightfall, Guardians start at power level 1600.
- The soft cap is at 1750.
- The powerful cap at 1800.
- With top loot, you can reach the hard cap of 1810.
Power level, however, seems to be less important in Season 20 and also in Year 6 of Lightfall, despite much of the game set to become harder:
This is changing with Crafting:
- The champion counters will be passive and distributed through seasonal artifact perks, subclass abilities, weapons, and more in the future.
- Only 12 perks can be unlocked and active in the seasonal artifact.
- The “Artful Armor” will receive a unique mod slot that can grant you +3 for all character stats such as strength, mobility, resilience, etc.
- There will be updates for mods that bring new build potential to the game.
- Fewer weapons will be craftable and more weapons with long-term sources will gain value through random perk rolls.
- Players will never see deep sight (i.e., craftable weapons) on a weapon in Lightfall unless they need the crafting progress for it. So if you see a red border in the game, you know it’s valuable and you still need it.
This is changing regarding abilities: Bungie has also adjusted the abilities of the Guardians and explained this in detail in the TWaB so that everything is balanced in Lightfall.
- Discipline, strength, and class ability values will be re-scaled.
- The ability energy armor mods will be updated. Specific solar, void, or arc mods will no longer exist and mods will be bound solely to armor slots like helmet or chest armor.
- The dodge cooldowns will be reversed.
- Physics collisions are less deadly, which means a nerf for the Architect.
These are the changes to the economy that Destiny 2 is making:
- Ada-1 will offer old shaders starting from Season 20 so that more color comes into the game.
- The Guardians can now focus master-nightfall gear and also have the additional option to focus older gear, which means less FOMO, the fear of missing out.
- Umbral engrams will no longer exist. They will be replaced by seasonal engrams.
- Abolition of seasonal currencies in favor of chest keys.
- Players can expect fewer vendor upgrades, allowing them to spend more time playing and less time figuring out what to do.
10. Resource-efficient and Fast DLC
Last but not least, Destiny 2: Lightfall has also become more modern under the hood. As Joe Blackburn revealed in August 2022, work has been done behind the scenes on the Destiny engine, preparing its technology and game so that it will endure for many, many years. This seems to already be paying off in Lightfall.
- Although the downloadable file size for Lightfall is large, this new installation will improve the loading times of Destiny 2.
- Also, the storage space required for Destiny 2 will be reduced after the Lightfall release.
Destiny 2: Lightfall with Season 20 will be released on February 28, 2023. However, the servers will already go offline 24 hours earlier. We have already summarized the information about the Lightfall preload.
