It won’t be long before the new Lightfall DLC in Destiny 2 starts. The Guardians already know a lot about what to expect there. However, with the multitude of info and details, it’s easy to lose track. Therefore, MeinMMO summarizes everything important for you.
What can the Guardians expect from February 28 in Destiny 2? These are the last exciting days before the new DLC “Lightfall”. Once they arrive, the Guardians of Destiny 2 will not only have to face their end but also prevent the apocalypse. As the players make their way to Neptune, they can expect several new things.
- Guardians will be able to master the new subclass Strand with all its aspects and fragments.
- A new city awaits to be discovered on Neptune with wondrous Cloudstriders.
- Calus is alive again and has become the latest disciple of the Witness.
- Additionally, there will be another installment of an enthralling Light and Darkness saga campaign.
- Plus many exotics and futuristic weapons to hunt.
However, there are also other changes to the game that are less obvious, such as adjustments to build crafting or engrams. Therefore, we inform you in this article compactly about everything new in Destiny 2: Lightfall.
1. New Campaign for the Light and Darkness Saga
Lightfall also features a new campaign for the current story of the Light and Darkness Saga. The Guardians of Destiny 2 are currently on the brink of their end, and the next apocalypse is about to break out.
- The campaign of Lightfall can be played Classic or on Legendary difficulty.
- The Legendary campaign mode features tougher enemies and a limited power level but also increased rewards.
What is the Lightfall campaign and Season 20 about? Calus has finally achieved his goal and looked into the Void so that the Witness would hear him. Now he is its new disciple, a sort of empowered henchman, and allows himself to be delegated around.
On his orders, he also flew with his new ship to Neptune, because there seems to be something important going on. Both for the Witness and for the Guardians.
This is what the Season of Resistance brings: But it won’t only be the big battle in Neomuna. Calus’ Shadow Legion, his new troops, are also attacking the Last City in Season 20. And the Guardians must make their stand in the European Dead Zone.
2. The New Subclass “Strand”
With Lightfall and thus in Season 20, the new subclass also starts. When the end of the universe is imminent, the Guardians apparently have nothing left but themselves and the new damage type “Strand”.
- The Hunter becomes the Thread Runner
- He is a master of movement, speed, and grace. The city of Neomuna is his playground as he reaches for the threads and weaves new ones to zip through the air and find the quickest path between two points.
- The Titan becomes the Berserker
- Untamed and wild, Titan Berserkers tear at Strand to manifest claws with which they separate their targets from the weave. The boundary that no one crosses is drawn by a Berserker.
- The Warlock commands vicious “Strand Aphids”
- The Warlock is the master of Strand. As a Thread Winder, he can effortlessly manipulate the weave with just his mind. The telekinetic sorcerers can even turn Strand into sentient creatures known as “Threadlings” that obey his commands and attack enemies.
This video shows Bungie’s Guardians what is possible with Strand starting from Lightfall:
Earn Strand Fragments and Aspects: In Lightfall and Season 20, there will be additional aspects and fragments that Guardians can collect after the campaign ends. The unlocking will be much easier than in the DLC “Beyond Light” for the last new subclass Stasis.
We have listed all new Strand aspects and fragments for you here:
3. A New Destination on Neptune
As previously mentioned, the Guardians must set off for Neptune in Lightfall and Season 20. There, a futuristic city awaits to be discovered, which holds a secret.
Bungie teased these Neomuna locations in advance in the ViDoc:
- The “Fascinatron”: This is a Lost Sector in the form of an arcade where players can even play for fun with their buddies.
- The “Pouka Pond”: In Lightfall and the new location “Neomuna”, you can see plenty of these flying fish creatures that were so fascinating back in the DLC “Beyond Light”.
- The “Ahimsa Park”: On the other side of the city of Neomuna lies Calus’ ship. The Typhon Imperator has landed in the middle of Ahimsa Park, and the neon city lies in ruins.
Neomuna has actually existed for hundreds of years. It branched off during the downfall of Earth and severed all communication. The inhabitants there have been living secretly on Neptune and in safety for quite some time.
In between these skyscrapers, players can not only excel with Strand. Two of Neomuna’s protectors are also waiting for them, whom you are supposed to assist in the technologically advanced city.
These NPCs are the protectors of Neomuna, known as Cloudstriders or Curruli:
- Rohan is the grumpy old veteran who is too old for all this.
- Nimbus is the young wild one still in training with Rohan. He is impetuous and full of life, a bit cocky but very confident about his own abilities.
4. New Enemies
While Calus and his Shadow Legion have been changed by the Witness, they still remain Cabal. So the enemies that players in Destiny 2 know all too well.
- The Shadow Legion are Calus’ loyalist Cabal followers. However, they have been “altered” by the Witness and apparently received a boost from mysterious pyramid technology. How strong they are with this, the Guardians must find out themselves.
Somewhat nastier are the Tormentors, and their name seems to be a program. In a few extracts from the Lightfall trailer, they could already be seen in action, and their scythe is quite impressive.
- Tormentors are foreboding executioners of the Witness with a powerful scythe weapon. They can not only grab a Guardian but also take their light.
- These subordinates of the Witness also know no fear and are said to be extremely resistant to weapons, except in some critical areas.
- Moreover, they are actively empowered by the Witness’ and pyramid technology. This allows them to perform agile maneuvers at unfathomable speed.
5. Lightfall Weapons and Gear from Season 20
In Destiny 2: Lightfall, Guardians will be challenged by a new force that is unprecedented in recorded history. The big question is: What do you set against such a force? Of course, futuristic weapons and new perks.
With Lightfall come Curruli weapons:
- Curruli weapons have been mysteriously reshaped. They employ nanite technology.
One of these Curruli weapons could be extensively tested by pre-orderers of Lightfall. The exotic 720 auto rifle “Quecksilbersturm”. It has an integrated rocket launcher and can transform into a grenade launcher. In Season 20, the weapon will also receive a catalyst.
In addition to the rifle “Quecksilbersturm”, you can expect these exotics:
- “Last Warning” – A new focused pistol.
- “Deterministic Chaos” – A powerful machine gun for crowd control.
- “Winterbite” – A frosty stasis with a cool buddy.
- “Cyrtarachnes Facade” (Hunter Exo) – The nightmare in the crucible.
- “Floating Jump” (Titan Exo) – Ensures suspended enemies.
- “Swarm” (Warlock Exo) – Threadlings that track your enemies.
This is the ritual weapon from Season 20: The glaive named “Ecliptic Splinter” is associated with the Void element, comes from the Dreaming City, and brings new perks. Among them, “Recharging Aegis” and “Destabilizing Rounds”.
Of course, the “Season of Resistance” will also feature Legendary weapons that you can play. Some may even seem familiar to some Guardians, as Bungie has borrowed them from an old DLC. MeinMMO has already created a before and after comparison for you.
Guardians who have been paying close attention, like our Destiny author Christos, have even spotted a truly popular D1 weapon in the trailers for Lightfall:
This trend is in Season 20: The stylish armors from Season 20 and Lightfall should not go unmentioned. With them, you can either equip yourself to the teeth with ammunition or simply dance a classy flamenco. The matching emote “Flamenco Dance” will also come in Season 20.

On the next page, you will find out what PvE activities are coming in Lightfall and Season 20 and what new systems Bungie is bringing to the game.
