Now a question that probably every “Year 1” player has: Who is the Stranger?
In the first story missions that culminate in the mission “The Black Garden”, the Guardians encounter a Stranger. She is an Exo and is known for the line, that she has no time to explain why she has no time for explanations. After this first story chapter, she gifts the Guardians the Stranger’s rifle and disappears. Since then, she has not reappeared. No one knows who she is, why she helped us and why she had no time for explanations.
We only know that she was not forged in the light. She is not a Guardian. And this could become significant in Destiny 2: Because the Cabal are attacking the Traveler, the Guardians will be stripped of their powers – how strong our “light” will be then remains to be seen. Perhaps we will encounter the strange Exo again, who will teach us how to confront the Darkness without the powers of light.
There will definitely be someone like that in Destiny 2: The Collector’s Edition of Destiny 2 includes, among other things, a Frontier backpack and a Frontier kit. According to the product description, these belong to Hawthorne – a woman who survived in the wilderness for years and is not a Guardian. It is speculated that Hawthorne could be the strange Exo.
What are the Speaker’s intentions?
The Speaker is the voice of the Traveler, who gives the Guardians tasks and advice repeatedly. He is an old person who has lived since the earliest days of the City. The Speaker once had an apprentice named Osiris, but they had differing views and subsequently became rivals. The Speaker then banished him from the City.
This shows: The Speaker is not just the nice NPC who helps us with our tasks, but he can also take strict measures to maintain his power. Some Guardians are also skeptical of him since he wears a mask in the Tower. The other NPCs show their faces. What does the Speaker have to hide? Perhaps there will be answers in Destiny 2.
Amusing: At one point, Bungie planned to introduce “Tiger Man” as a race in Destiny. Characters with tiger heads that can be noble, wise but also brutal. However, these were discarded during development. This information is a possible explanation for why there are tiger masks during the Festival of the Lost. Some Guardians now speculate that the Speaker could be the only “Tiger Man” in the game – which is why he wears the white mask in front of his face. However, this seems unlikely.
In any case, it remains exciting what role the Speaker will play in Destiny 2. His Tower is being destroyed, the Traveler is being attacked. He cannot remain inactive.
Does Osiris return?
As mentioned earlier, Osiris was once the Speaker’s apprentice and a member of the Vanguard until they became rivals and he was subsequently banished. Where he is now and whether he still lives is unclear.
Osiris was a Warlock extremely interested in Darkness and sought greater truths. He still has students, like Brother Vance. Since he had connections to the queen in the Reef (and also to the Nine), Brother Vance is located in the Vestian Outpost.
The expansion pass for Destiny 2 features Osiris’s logo during the first DLC. This has led to speculation that Osiris will make a return in Destiny 2 – whether as an ally or an enemy. Perhaps the conflict between Osiris and the Speaker will reignite.
Osiris has dealt with the big questions in the Destiny universe – with the light, with the darkness. Perhaps he will provide the answers to many questions that are burning under the Guardians’ fingernails.
