The latest patch of Dead by Daylight is live and brought some of the most controversial changes ever. Hex: Ruin is practically dead and the Doctor has been nerfed.
When the developers from Behaviour showcased their latest update for Dead by Daylight a few weeks ago, they faced criticism ahead of time. After all, one of the most crucial perks, Hex: Ruin, was set to be heavily changed. Now Patch 3.5.0 is live and has hardly undergone any changes. We reveal what the update entails.
What changes were made to “Hex: Ruin”? Hex: Ruin no longer makes repairing generators harder with tough skill checks but affects all generators that are currently not being worked on. These lose their progress automatically over time, as long as the Hex Totem remains active.
The developers aimed to create an endgame perk with this. Players criticize that Hex Totems never last until the endgame.
What changes were made to the Doctor? The Doctor no longer has two stances and loses his passive aura that increases madness. Instead, he can use a targeted shock once per minute that fills his entire terror radius.
However, other aspects have been significantly nerfed. When survivors calm down now, they go back to Madness I instead of Madness II as previously. Additionally, they no longer lose their progress on calming down if they interrupt it.
How is the community reacting? The sentiment within the community has hardly changed in the past weeks. Memes still rain down regarding the developers’ decisions. There is a widespread opinion that killers currently have hardly any chance and that the existing community is being alienated to attract new players.

Many players are complaining about long wait times for survivors. This is hardly surprising, given that after these changes, hardly anyone wants to play the killer.
Wasn’t gonna make this cause thought they weren’t gonna add it to live servers from r/deadbydaylight
Have you seen this cool rescue action?
What else did the patch bring? The patch also revamped the Hospital (Lery’s Memorial). The map is now much darker and has a modified design. The community has praised this, saying the map is now much creepier and more cohesive.
Additionally, the patch introduced the new “Tome II: Reckoning,” which is playable from tonight (22.01.2020). It brings new challenges and cosmetic rewards as well as a new “Season Pass.” This time, the stories of the following characters are highlighted:
- Herman Carter (The Doctor)
- Rin Yamaoka (The Spirit)
- David King
- Jane Romero
As with the first Tome, many rewards and the story can be unlocked for free. However, anyone wanting to have and unlock all cosmetic items will have to buy a “Rift Pass” for 1000 Auric Cells again this time. This is roughly 10 Euros.
What do you think of the new patch? Do you like the direction Dead by Daylight is heading? Or should they have listened more to the players?
