A desperate PS5 player is trying to avert the inevitable with an online petition and demands that Bethesda’s upcoming RPG Starfield be released for the PS5.
What kind of game is this? Starfield is one of the most significant games of the year, not only for Microsoft and Bethesda. The developers leave no doubt about how big the sci-fi RPG is supposed to be and showcase it in elaborate presentations.
But there’s a catch: Starfield will only be released for PC and Xbox Series X/S, a release for the PS5 is not planned. This doesn’t sit well with some PlayStation players, as Bethesda’s RPG studio is celebrated on Sony’s console for franchises like Fallout, Doom, and The Elder Scrolls.
Now a PlayStation player has made a desperate attempt to bring Starfield to PlayStation through a petition – presenting an absurd demand.
Desperate PS5 Player Lives the Console War
What is this petition about? The user “Benjamin Dickey” has launched a petition on the petition website change.org titled “Make Starfield a PS5 Exclusive”. With this petition, the user calls for the space RPG to be released for the PS5 contrary to the current release plan.
Furthermore, the petition states that Starfield should only be released for the PS5 and not for Xbox. This is intended to punish Microsoft and Xbox players. But that’s not all: besides Starfield, all future Bethesda games should also only be released for PlayStation consoles.
The digital petition was launched on June 15, 2023, and in four days, it managed to collect just over 1,000 signatures (as of June 19, 2023, 3:30 PM).
How promising is the petition? Absolutely not at all. We probably don’t need to mention this, but it is completely unlikely that Starfield will become a PS5 Exclusive.
It is quite possible that the entire petition, including the reasons stated in the text, is just a joke; the statements of the petition creator cannot be taken too seriously.
The petition will likely not change the platforms on which the game will be released, as Microsoft acquired Bethesda for $7.5 billion in September 2020.
