Demon Slayer has become one of the most popular animes in the Shonen genre in recent years. The story is already concluded in the manga. However, fans can watch Tanjiro’s adventures again in animated form in the anime. But according to the mangaka Koyoharu Gotouge, the series contains a mistake.
What is wrong with the anime? When it comes to the strengths of the anime, fans often mention the stunning animations during the battles. On IMDb, for example, there are numerous comments describing the animations as “brilliant,” “breathtaking,” or “great.”
This refers primarily to the special effects during the battles. The demon slayers in Demon Slayer use specific breathing techniques with which they can perform colorful special attacks. Depending on the element, fire, water, hearts, or other things accumulate around the attacks.
However, there is a small catch:
But according to the mangaka, these animations are not seen at all. The author left a note between two chapters stating that water demon slayers do not actually generate water when they attack. Those who see the elements simply believe that they can perceive them.
The phenomenon can be applied to the other elements as well. Thus, the spectacular animations that we love in the battles of Demon Slayer are actually a figment of the imagination.
The upcoming arc features intense training. Check out the trailer for the Hashira Training Arc, in which there is also a brief special effect:
There are many elements in Demon Slayer
What distinguishes the special effects? The element that forms around the fighter depends on their breathing technique. In Demon Slayer, there are various sword fighting styles based on the user’s breathing. There are some basic breathing techniques, such as flame breathing or water breathing, but also advanced techniques such as:
- Flower Breathing
- Insect Breathing
- Love Breathing
- Beast Breathing
- Fog Breathing
All the effects triggered by these breathing techniques are not visible. However, this does not apply to all effects: Nezuko’s burning blood is real, just like Zenitsu’s incredibly fast movements or the fog that Muichiro Tokito can summon.
Where can I watch Demon Slayer? There are currently three seasons of Demon Slayer. Season 4 will premiere on May 12, 2024, on Crunchyroll. All previous seasons can be watched on either Netflix or Crunchyroll. For the Netflix episodes, you need an active subscription, while Crunchyroll has some episodes available for free.
